Lois Lane Statue Unveiled in Metropolis

You might not know her name, but Noel Neill has been in just about every motion picture featuring Superman since 1950. Neill portrayed Lois Lane in serials, shorts, and movies, but she is best known as Lois Lane from the 1953-1958 half-hour TV show, Adventures of Superman, starring George Reeves. Last Friday, a 9' tall statue of Ms. Neill was unveiled in Metropolis, Illinois.

The mayor called Noel Neill "a living legend." The statue, and area on which it sets, cost $65,000 and was paid for by donations. The 90-year-old Neill last appeared in 2006's Superman Returns. Sculptor Gary Smith also created the Man of Steel display in Superman Square.

The self-proclaimed "Home of Superman," Metropolis, IL also hosts The Super Museum, voted one of the top ten attractions in the state.
