McDonald's, perhaps the most famous of American fast food restaurants, is launching a full "retooling" -- not just of its menu, but its chain restaurants' design. Some 1600 overseas sites will be renovated, and 400 restaurants across America will be redesigned.
McDonald's COO, Don Thompson, said "People eat with their eyes first." He explained that an "appealing, contemporary, and relevant" exterior and interior makes 'the food taste better.' McDonald's restaurants in Los Angeles, New York, and Missouri have already undergone renovation and reported a 6-7% sales increase.
Thompson makes no attempt to hide the fact that this renovation is aimed at the younger generation. He hopes they will see McDonald's as a place to eat, and not just a place to pick-up food.
