More Technical Difficulties

Well, I was working on a particular post which led me to another article, which led to another (as such research often does). To make it as short as possible, I was going to bring you a story when I saw that I could possibly bring you better coverage by reading the supporting links within an article I was reading, and when I got to it, I realized there were actually two stories there, and was deciding whether to run them separately or make one, rambling piece of them, when I crossed something else which got me to wandering... and I wandered upon a blog which had scraped my entire Boston Legal post!

Understandably (from my POV), I take such things quite seriously, and I know how to fight and report them. Unfortunately, many of the original watchdogs I once depended on have long since folded-up, and the methods already employed obviously didn't dissuade this piece of shit, so I had to stop what I was doing and research this new development...

I will have more on this over to Weird Ink (probably Monday), but for now, I have already tried contacting this little bitch, but she cleverly disabled all comments, hid her e-mail, and so on. I can find out precisely who she is and where she's from, etc. (which I plan to do following this), so she's fresh out of luck if she thinks her highschool hack3r ski11s are going to save her accounts, but it's a lot more than that - it's the point of the whole thing as much as anything else.

Anyway, this is just how my days typically are. You can see why I rarely accomplish much.

Two Weeks to Get Your Sunny On

FX Networks asked Hulu to remove all episodes of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia from its site. Hulu did so without warning, drawing the ire of many users. They requested a little extra time from FX Networks, and posted a lengthy note on the Sunny section, saying:

FX Networks was very quick to say yes to our request to give users reasonable advance notice here, despite the fact that it was the Hulu team that dropped the ball.

All the seasons (up to now) of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia have been returned to the Hulu site until January 25th, at which point, they will be removed. So you really don't have a full two weeks... more like one.

At any rate, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia is, by far, the funniest show on TV - anywhere - and your life is poorer for not having experienced it if you have yet to see it. Take a moment to check it out. In particular, I highly recommend the following episodes:
After January 25th, you can still find episodes and clips over to the FX Networks official site at www.fxnetworks.com/sunny

The Weirding: Technical Difficulties

The Rundown is part of The Weirding (formerly Fear the Outside) and always has been; in fact, The Rundown was originally the siteblog. Regular readers know all of this, so this is largely for you n00bs. The only reason The Rundown is not a sub-domain off The Weirding is due to sponsor concerns; it remains a BlogSpot blog, but it is the Sequential Art and Comic Books department of the site.

At any rate, I spend a lot of time here because I love comics and so forth, and I have often reminded readers of the other blogs (which are also departments of The Weirding) that if I cannot be found there, they can always find me here. Which is why I am posting this:

The host for The Weirding is undergoing some server maintenance this weekend. If you have tried to access the site without success, this is why. Obviously, this does not affect The Rundown, but some visitors find the site through RPG-related posts made here.

Netherworld Hits Stands This March

Netherworld #1January 12, 2009 - Studio 407 is excited to launch the first issue of Netherworld on March 25th. Studio 407 recently announced that their vampire series, The Night Projectionist, was picked up by Myriad Pictures along with the much anticipated Hybrid, which starts filming later this year, directed by Ernie Barbarash (Cube Zero, American Psycho 2). Now comes the original new series Netherworld, which takes the zombie/undead genre to a terrifying new level. Adding to Studio 407’s growing stable of horror titles, Netherworld is penned by emerging writing talent, Chad Jones, and penciled by Brazilian artist, RB Silva.

Jones says "I've been writing genre for as long as I can remember. So, I was kicking around a novel idea and was trying to describe the creature concept in the story to a friend and made the off-hand comment, "well it's not like they're alien zombies or anything..." Jones continues "And I stopped. And I thought, hmm... that would be kind of awesome. Alien zombies. Hell, I gotta write that! And suddenly, Netherworld became my obsession. Everything else that I had been writing, planning to write, or thinking about writing got put to the side and I started hammering the keyboard like a mad person. And Netherworld came out in a flourish of alien body parts, political intrigue, humans running for their lives and lots and lots of blood. "

On a distant planet, a team of specialists investigate the mysterious remains of an alien civilization brought to the brink of extinction. Dead alien bodies litter the streets of a massive city in what was once a majestic, extraterrestrial culture. As the team unravels the enigma surrounding this cataclysmic event, they discover the planet’s horrible secret, and soon find themselves surrounded by a legion of undead aliens. Blending out of this world action with full-on terror, Netherworld blends Aliens with Dawn of the Dead, and will satisfy both horror and science fiction fans alike.

You can pre-order Netherworld now by using the Diamond order code: DCD item # JAN094420

Has Normalcy Returned?

As I said, I love my friend, and he had to come up to help me because of my neck, so I appreciate everything he did for me, but I'm so happy to have my little home back to myself. I think the cats are glad, too; it's hard to tell with them - they're extremely talkative and all, but they're spoiled rotten, so they stay upset over something. For two weeks now, they've had someone new in their house, so I have a feeling they're a bit worn-out. For two weeks now, I've been away or entertaining, and I am definitely worn-out.

But it was good. The other day, I was doing something when ideas for one of the projects I am working on just started flooding in! I forget what I was doing, but I was nowhere I could get to a piece of paper or the computer to write them down, so I just began fleshing them out in my head (it's a trick I learned a long time ago which helps me remember them) and I have been champing at the bit to get back to it since then. However, there was just no way I could get into anything involved with my friend here.

I love the guy, have since childhood, but he is just a Talker. He literally has to be running his mouth 24/7 - about anything! If he can't find something to talk about, he'll restart discussions from years ago... It is one of his characteristics - I know that's how he is - and I accept it, so it doesn't bother me; if I did not have to concentrate on what I am doing, I wouldn't mind it. He's great company and all, but he just cannot shut up.

All week long, I was having to wait until he went to bed or got in the shower or whatever to get something done, and that got old. Quickly. Just impossible to get anything done that way.

But, like I said, it was a pleasant change for a short time. I enjoyed it while it lasted and I'm glad it's over. I hope that doesn't sound ugly, because it isn't meant to. I'm sure he's glad to be back home and back to his regular life, too.

And the doctors visits aren't done yet, either; I have at least one more, early next week, which will almost certainly necessitate another shortly afterward. So things will still be dicey for the immediate future, but they are settling back down, at least.

About time...

Friends

Well, my friend was set to stay until the weekend, and had a really great time (as did I), but circumstances are forcing him to leave early. And though I loved having him here, it will be nice to have my home back to myself again finally; it's literally been weeks now since I've been home, you know?

I will miss him and it's really nice to have someone around to talk to, but I could not get anything done with him here. I felt like I was ignoring him when I had to work and felt like I had to entertain him when I wasn't. I'll be so happy to get back to yelling at the cats!

TV Rundown: Stargate Fills-Out Universe, CBS Orders Comic Adaptation, Cartoon Network Goes Live, David Kelley's New Show Set for Cancellation

The new medicine I am taking lists "lack of concentration/focus" as one of its many side effects, so there will probably be more Rundowns in coming months - it's all I can do and I have a doctor's note to prove it!
  • Justin Louis, David Blue, Brian J. Smith, and Jamil Walker Smith round out the new Stargate Universe cast. We told you Robert Carlyle will lead the crew of a ship lost deep in space as they try to find their way home. Blue plays the resident slacker genius, Eli Wallace; Louis is Col. Everett Young; Louis = Lt. Matthew Scott; and Smith tackles the heavy, Sr. Sgt. Ronald Greer. Stargate veterans, Brad Wright and Robert Cooper, will executive produce and write the program, which debuts as a two-hour movie special.
  • CBS has picked-up Human Target, based on the DC comic book and written by Jericho co-creator, Jonathan Steinberg.
  • TNT has ordered six more episodes of Leverage.
  • Cartoon Network is "expanding" into live-action with a slate of 12 new series planned for release in the next year or two. Chief content officer, Rob Sorcher, described them as "...action dramas, for the most part - they all fall under a sort of teenage boy wish-fulfillment scenario." He said live-action would not replace animated programming, it would "complement" it.
  • Boston Legal creator, David E. Kelley's soon to be canceled legal drama (the fourth or fifth in a series), Legally Mad, will feature Hugh Bonneville, opposite Charity Wakefield. Legally Mad centers on a 20-something attorney who accepts a job in her father's law firm. Bonneville plays the dad, Gordon Hamm. Kelley described the series as "a lot of fun." The project has been developed for NBC, which plans to cancel it shortly.
  • Speaking of the Peacock, NBC renewed both The Office and 30 Rock. Inexplicably, Heroes will also be returning. The Weirding also has some exciting news on the Heroes front, which we will be sharing shortly. The Biggest Loser will be lugging its fat asses back for another season, but Lipstick Jungle might be hitting the streets - both Kath & Kim and Knight Rider may soon follow. Drama, Southland, will be replacing ER, after three "bonus" episodes air.
  • The Peacock has yet another entry on this TV Rundown, as they made a slew of announcements: The Untitled Amy Poehler Show will premiere in Kath & Kim's slot. The show follows Poehler's character, a mid-level bureaucrat in the Parks and Recreation Department of Pawnee, Indiana, as she seeks to beautify her town. The mockumentary has not announced any castmembers, but a commenter on E! had a great title suggestion: Parked.
And that's your TV Rundown for the third week of January, 2009.

Chevy Chase to Guest on Chuck

Chevy Chase will be guest-starring on an upcoming episode of Chuck. He will play Ted Roark, the founder of Roark Instruments, the company at which Chuck always wanted to work. Given the formula of the show, Roark will either be a spy for one political faction, country, organization or another, or be threatened by one. Since Roark Instruments is Chuck's target employer, Chevy Chase may have landed a recurring role... which will be his first since Saturday Night Live.

Supernatural, Sober House, Caller ID on My Desktop

Supernatural is the best show on TV. Tonight, some low-level writer finally got his big break with his transcript of the best Call of Cthulhu adventure he ever ran (come on: it followed the classic horror movie formula [loving, semi-happy family with a troubled past moves into a new home to start over with their smart-mouthed, teenage daughter who stays on the phone too much, and etc.], not to mention that Dean read the book to find the "spell" while Sam continued the adventure in the dungeons below) - but it's Supernatural, so it worked! Granted, Sam lost his character (though he didn't do anything out of character) and it was a stand-alone episode which did almost nothing to forward the overall storyline, but they borrowed from Smallville's formula and threw in a little foreshadowing after the last commercial break.

Speaking of which, I defy anyone to watch an episode of Smallville this year and not say the magic is back! Smallville is finally exciting again! And though he may never wear a cape onscreen, the Legion most certainly assuaged all we purists' fears with their memories of times yet to come. Yet another well-scripted episode from a season that has been filled with them! According to most reports, a ninth season hinges almost entirely on Tom Welling's willingness to return, so here's to hoping he makes the right choice.

Finally, our answer to "What happened to Mary Carey?" was answered by the premiere of Sober House over to VH1. VH1 used to be MTV for our parents, but they have since surpassed the non-Music Channel with their collection of reality shows, most of which feature rock stars and movie celebrities your kids' parents know (that's you, man - you're like old now, dude). Of course, the entire episode was dedicated to Steven Adler, who showed up blasted and tried to sneak a whole kit (heroin and the means to use it) into the Sober House. I foresee great things for this show...

I signed-up for a new plan on my phone thingy, which means I get my internet cheaper, along with 30 free minutes of long distance, and now have caller ID and call-waiting. I haven't had caller ID in about 10 years, and I used to have it on my computer: whenever someone would call, the whole screen would go to the number, like a screensaver does, and you could see who was calling from clear across the house. It was annoying when you forgot to turn it off and were trying to work, but I got so used to it so quickly that it bugged the hell out of me once I moved.

I'm sure I have the program somewhere, but I doubt it would work on Vista - it was for Win98. So I'm looking for a program which will display Caller ID on my screen. There probably is one for the Windows (Aero) Sidebar, but I don't run it because it takes up too much resources.

Anyway, I have stuff to do, so I will probably be up for a minute, which means I will have another post or two for you before I finally turn-in, but you know how that goes... I could honestly sleep for a day or two and I'm sure I could use it! Go check out all those links I dropped on you up there; I don't write this stuff for nothing!

True Blood Peripherals

It's going to be several more years before the entertainment industry figures out a way to truly integrate the communications technologies available to them these days. Of course, foremost on their minds is how to make a profit by doing so, so it isn't as though the technologies and methods don't already exist - they do. And because HBO is a pay channel, that gives them some leeway in the arena.

The Weirding is a big fan of HBO's True Blood, as evidenced here by our close following of the program in its first season. And HBO had begun promoting the show long before it debuted, with spoofy commercial spots featuring vampires discussing their "lifestyle" on talk shows and political news magazines, both real (Bill Maher) and fictitious. Each of these contained the URL to the American Vampire League's website.

You can join their cause on Facebook, where they are listed as a political organization and you can follow Nan Flanagan's Twitter. We show you how to follow Twitters in your AIM (AOL Instant Messenger) program over to The Cyberculturalist (as well as how to configure your AIM to work with Ping.FM so you can update your Twitter - and all of your social network status messages - through it, too). So even though True Blood is off the air for now, preparing for their second season, you can follow the goings-on surrounding the show online.

Hopefully, HBO will go further with this, combining their online efforts with the show itself to create an entirely fictional online world which coincides with that on the show. You could follow rumors on Twitter, breaking "news" on in-show ("real-world") events, and more - all by following the characters, blogs, and sites associated with True Blood. With a little ingenuity and some clever tweaking, you could live in the True Blood world online!

For now, you can still check out their online offerings... for what they're worth.

Pres. Obama Reinstates Youngblood Program

Youngblood #815 January 2009 - Yesterday morning, Comic Book Resources broke the news President Barack Obama will make his first major superhero-related initiative public during a six-page back-up story written and illustrated by comic superstar Rob Liefeld in February's YOUNGBLOOD #8!

"Obama re-instating the YOUNGBLOOD program with his picks is a natural, with SAVAGE DRAGON having featured Obama already," Liefeld told CBR. "And with YOUNGBLOOD having featured George H. Bush in its past, as well as a Saddam Hussein-styled guy, and YOUNGBLOOD featured alongside Dan Quayle in WILDC.A.T.s, and Bill Clinton in SUPREME, Image has a long history of involving presidential figures."

The Liefeld-penned six-page back-up story will see America's 44th President begin his term by selecting the next line-up of YOUNGBLOOD to protect the country after the team's radical changes set forth in Joe Casey and Derec Donovan's fan-favorite run. This leads into May's YOUNGBLOOD #9, in which Liefeld returns to the book full-time and President Obama comes into play as the White House comes under siege.

YOUNGBLOOD #8 (JUL082216), a 32-page full color comic book for $2.99, will be in-stores February 2009.

Che Guevara was NOT Batman

Benicio Del Toro has been running around, babbling lunacy about Che Guevara for several months now. He is portraying the revolutionary lapdog in a new movie set to whitewash Guevara's image and distort his role in history, and Del Toro is eager to help.

The Oscar-winning actor claims he spent months reading-up on Guevara in preparation for his role, and believes the murderous Cuban was "just like Batman." Now, I'm not going to go into all the many, many ways in which Guevara is absolutely nothing like Batman, but the shortest answer is that Batman does not believe in killing children who disagree with him.

These pretentious actors and self-proclaimed "artists" who run around with T-shirts and cloth shopping bags emblazoned with Che's image have the misguided belief that Che Guevara should be a symbol of defiance - the image of rebellion against The Man - the truth is that Che Guevara was no hero.

One could argue that both Che and Bats take a hardline stance, that they hold steadfast to their beliefs and are averse to compromise. I can accept that. But while similarities do exist, Del Toro is campaigning to change Che Guevara's image into that of a hero, thus his Batman analogy; Del Toro's comparison of the two is specifically meant to draw correlations between Che Guevara and superheroes, and that is the primary thrust of his claim. To argue it any further will bring nothing of value to the conversation; Che Guevara was nothing like Batman.

Che Guevara begged like a bitch for his life.

Newsarama Debuts Viking

Viking 114 January 2009 (Berkeley, CA) - Yesterday afternoon comic book news mega-site Newsarama debuted the very first teaser from the upcoming Image Comics crime book for the 9th century, written by SECRET INVASION: HOME INVASION and THE CROSS BRONX's Ivan Brandon, and illustrated by Marvel Comics' rising star painter, Nic Klein: VIKING!

"VIKING is everything I love about crime fiction, filtered through one of the most violent and fascinating periods of human history," writer Ivan Brandon said. "It's been in the works for so long at this point that I'm overwhelmed to finally get to show it to people! The overwhelmingly positive response to the teaser alone has Nic and myself humbled."

While the larger details behind VIKING are still closely guarded, Brandon and series artist, Nic Klein, promise one of the most brutal crime tales to hit stands, as the best of the genre mashes up with an incredibly dark century for humanity. An interview expanding on the series will shortly follow on Newsarama.

"VIKING is one of the coolest series we're debuting this year," said Image Publisher, Eric Stephenson. "I've always admired Ivan's commitment to taking chances and doing comics that stand apart from everything else on the racks, and the more we've talked about what he has planned for VIKING, the more excited I've become. From the story concept to the execution of the artwork to the format Ivan's really going for it with this one!"

VIKING #1, a 24-page full comic book for $2.99, will be in-stores April 1st, 2009.

They're right about that art! I see it as Bill Sienkiewicz's finishes over Frank Miller's breakdowns, personally. It has that chunky underpinning with hyper-realistic detailing. In fact, it reminds me exactly of both artists' cover work on Lone Wolf & Cub.

RIP: Ricardo Montalban

Mr. Roarke of Fantasy Island caught "de plane" earlier today. Ricardo Montalban died in his home at 88, according to his family. Montalban starred in movies made in his native Mexico before making his way into MGM musicals in 1946. But he was best known for his role as the mercurial Mr. Roarke of the hit 1980's show, Fantasy Island. Ricardo Montalban helped found ALMA, which encourages fair portrayals of Latinos in entertainment.

Oh yes, and he played Khan in that Star Trek movie.

Attention PR Departments

Hey you gu-uys!

If you received an e-mail from one of my many addresses earlier today, it is a legitimate e-mail. Unfortunately, some of you have different e-mail addresses, as I have many. I did not think of this until a few minutes ago and forwarded it from another of them. I apologize; I am obviously not trying to spam your boxes, just trying to get my message through.

Luckily, I run a blog.

The title is The Weirding Spring 2009 Promo Contest.

Thanks.

Tom Brevoort Wants to Trade-Up

Marvel Comics Executive Editor Tom Brevoort, one of the comic industry’s most prolific personalities, is proud to present TAKE MY TRADE, a groundbreaking quest to trade-up to a copy of Fantastic Four #1! Pioneered by Brevoort’s critically-acclaimed Blah Blah Blog at Marvel.Com, this event allows fans to trade their comics with Brevoort so he can find a comic worthy of being traded for an original FF #1, which will then be donated to charity via The HERO Initiative. All comics remaining at the end of this event, which continues throughout 2009, will be auctioned by The HERO Initiative to aid in the welfare of less fortunate comic book creators. Plus, every participant in this event receives a Certificate of Meaninglessness, personally signed by Brevoort himself!

“It’s going great so far. I’ve already traded away every one of the initial five books I used to start the trading, and have a small stack of cool swag to show for it. But I’m still a long way from an FF #1. And that’s where you come in.” explained Brevoort. "When this whole experiment is finished, succeed or fail, the books that remain in the stack will be donated to the HERO Initiative, to be auctioned off to benefit comics creators in need. So not only will you be having some fun and getting some neat books, you’ll also be contributing to a good cause! So swing on by, take a look at what’s presently in the stack, and offer me a swap. It won’t be a party without you!”

Well, what are you waiting for True Believer? Click over to Marvel.Com and keep up with Tom Brevoort’s Take My Trade, as comic fans from all over the world come together to procure one of comics’ true treasures—Fantastic Four #1—for a charitable cause!

Agenda

I told you it would take some time to get back into the swing of things, having been gone for so long right after the holidays, which were about as slow as it has ever been - even for the holidays!

Compounding all of this, I brought a friend back to help me out, as my neck has gotten so bad, I simply haven't been able to do much of anything recently. My 50-year old neck. And while he is a help - the company is nice, if nothing else - like most people, he does not grasp the idea of working from home; it's been impossible to get any work done with him here. He wants to talk constantly, generally about things we have already discussed to death. Of course, I love the guy and he is a guest, so I have been accommodating him, but it stops today. That's part of the reason I'm up so early after staying up so late (that and the fact that I could not sleep).

Moving on:

The Rundown is about to launch our very first contest! Actually, we are launching no fewer than three, separate contests in the coming months across The Weirding! I know other blogs have been doing them for some time now - they were all the rage in 2008; almost every blog I saw was running one contest or another last year. Like everything else we do though, The Weirding's will be markedly different because it's of quality. Call me pompous (I can take it), but we're giving away actual stuff, not Entrecard points or links or whatever other non-prize is currently in vogue. This is the big announcement I said was coming this week, and the actual details will be posted later on.

Our first contest, here to The Rundown, is brought to you by MTV and iTunes! How is that for sponsorship, bitches? We know how to treat our nerds (cuz we loves you)! The other is actually from us and OtherWorld Creations (and who knows who else?). And the last is... well, I'd better not say just yet.

Since this is all pretty big news and I am slightly ahead of the curve this morning, I'm going to leave this post up for a bit so it doesn't get buried.

Caroline Kennedy in Female Force

Female Force: Caroline KennedyAs part of its continuing series to feature influential and iconic women, Bluewater Productions unveiled the next subject for it Female Force comic series: Caroline Kennedy. Written by Neal Bailey and drawn by Ryan Howe, this one-shot will be in stores in June.

The daughter of President John F. Kennedy and current aspirant for Hillary Clinton's soon-to-be-vacated U.S. Senate seat, Kennedy, an accomplished author, attorney and education advocate, will be featured in the June issue of the bi-monthly series.

Bluewater chose Kennedy as its next comic book subject before the news broke of her interest in New York politics. “She was on the short list before all the hype about the Senate seat. She is an amazing person who has done a lot for education,” said publisher Darren G. Davis.

“I hope readers enjoy my rendition of one of the most influential families in political history,” said artist Vinnie Tartamella.

The latest addition to the Female Force series follows the biographies of Sen. Clinton, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, and Michelle Obama, announced earlier this year. Female Force comic books showcase influential women who are making and shaping modern history. The Sarah Palin: Female Force comic book is available for order through Diamond Distributors, order code DEC083826.

Ledger's Golden Globe to go to Daughter

Speaking to People magazine, Heath Ledger's mom, Sally Bell, said his posthumous Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actor (The Dark Knight) will "eventually... be going to Matilda... because she is part of him."

The late actor won the coveted award for his role as the Joker in the tremendous summer hit, released months after he was found dead from an overdose. The Oscar buzz began instantly for what would be Ledger's last performance.

Prove You Love Proof and Win with Image!

Proof12 January 2009 (Berkeley, CA) - It's easy to say you're a big fan, but PROOF creators Alex Grecian and Riley Rossmo give you the chance to show it with the upcoming Prove You're A PROOF Freak Contest!

"Since issue number one, Riley and I have been blessed with a terrific fan base who often go out of their way with grassroots efforts to promote the series," Grecian said. "The Prove You're A PROOF Freak contest takes it one step further, by giving fans the chance to show off their fandom in a creative way - cut cardboard, sculpt ice, paint the side of your house, mow the logo into your corn field - do whatever it takes within legal means to show the world how much you love PROOF! Our favorite PROOF display could have three readers winning big!"

Photos of entries are due to letterstoproof@gmail.com no later than 12:00 PM EST time on April 1st, 2009. The top 10 entries will be published in PROOF, with the second runner up receiving a copy of PROOF #1 signed by Grecian and the first runner up receiving an original sketch by Rossmo. The Grand Prize winner will be drawn into PROOF as a Victorian-era circus freak, created using their name and likeness, and receive a page of art from the issue they appear in! In addition, those entries done in conjunction with their local comic book shop will also award their store with a signed copy of PROOF #1 and an original page of PROOF art!

PROOF VOL. 1: GOATSUCKER (MAR082085), a 128-page full-color tradepaperback for $9.99, and PROOF VOL. 2: THE COMPANY OF MEN (OCT082281), a 128-page full-color trade paperback for $12.99, are available now.

Alex Grecian and Riley Rossmo are the sole judges of this contest. Their decision will be final. No purchase necessary. All photos sent in will become the property of Alex Grecian and Riley Rossmo. The character based on the grand prize winner will also be the property of Alex Grecian and Riley Rossmo. Image Comics is not responsible for contest results or displays. Heavy Workload

I am still working feverishly on Dark Conspiracy @ The Weirding. I am adding pages at the rate of about one every 2-3 days, which comes to 3-4 pages a week, more or less. The problem is that you can't see most of them yet, as I am having to publish them "backward," as I've discussed before. Basically, I don't want to publish the main pages before getting all the pages they link to up first, because it will make navigating the site impossible and ugly (well, our 404 page is pretty friggin' hot, but you shouldn't have to see it often).

Tomorrow will be all about the blogs - well, today now - so no worries there. There is tons of comics news to get to, so rest assured, The Rundown will be... you know, running it down, as usual. Once I wake up.

Apologies

Real quick, let me apologize to all the companies and PR guys, etc., that I haven't been around to do everything these past couple of weeks. Maybe I'm already feeling "high"? But I did let everyone know I was going - at least on the blog; it isn't easy to mail every contact individually and I don't do the mass e-mail thing. I mean, running a blog is all about communications, so some of the burden has to be shared; you got to read the blog, guys!

ANYwho, let things get settled and I will start in on all the reviews and everything tomorrow.

Feeling "High"

So the doctor looks at me and - with a straight face, this guy - goes, "You have the neck of a 50-year old man."

He then proceeds to hand me a series of prescriptions. One of them is a whole packet of information - an "introductory" packet, if you will. Listed among the side effects... well, here's the quote:

Some of the most common side effects of [the drug provided] are dizziness, sleepiness, weight gain, blurred vision, dry mouth, feeling "high," swelling of the hands and...

...
- wait -

feeling "high"

Side effect? Well... you know. Yes, please. Seriously, that's what this thing says!

So I ask the pharmacist exactly what they mean by that, and she seems bemused and doesn't look directly at me as she says, "Well... you know, like a feeling of... euphoria."

Shit. Yes, please.

I mean, what? Give me exactly that. You know what I'm saying?

But she proceeds to tell me that most of the people for whom she has filled this prescription actually complain of depression. The pain medicine they give me makes me bounce off the frigging walls, but so goggly-eyed that I can hardly do anything, aside from lie around - nothing productive, at any rate. She said this may balance that out.

I will also be going to a premium pain management clinic-thingy, where I will not only be getting medication, but the full spa treatment: hot stone therapy, massage therapy, physical therapy (those torturous exercises which, regrettable as it is to say, do help) - the whole nine.

It means I will be away more often, but when I am able to work, I will feel much better and be more productive, so there should actually be an increase in both quantity and quality throughout the site. At least, that's the hope.

Anyway, I may be feeling "high" here at first, and until I get used to it, you know - send girls. I mean, I am going to relax and... be fuckedup get used to it. But between tonight and tomorrow, we'll get back to usual.

Sandra Bullock's a Mother

Janine Lindemulder, porn chick and Jesse James' ex, has been sentenced to six months in prison for tax evasion. In the interim, Sandra Bullock and Jesse James will raise the couple's daughter, Sunny.

Lindemulder will be in prison for six months and then must serve more time in a residential corrections community. Sunny was born after the couple split and full custody was awarded reality TV show star and celebrity mechanic, Jesse James, during this time. James and Bullock were recently wed.

According to sources, Bullock is excited to get her chance at motherhood, but Lindemulder is fearful of losing custody to the celebrity couple. Sunny is five.

News on Jonah Hex

Since we last had any news to bring you on the Jonah Hex movie, Josh Brolin has been confirmed for the lead. But last we jawed on the film, it had lost its directors. Though Terminator: Salvation director (and Supernatural producer), McG, had been rumored to be in the running - among others, like Andy Fickman and Lexi Alexander - none of them made the final cut.

Horton Hears a Who director, Jimmy Hayward has been announced as the director for the forthcoming Jonah Hex flick, which is in pre-production, according to IMdB. While many seemed disappointed at the news, it turns out star, Brolin himself, was the deciding factor: "He got an e-mail to me somehow, some way. He wasn’t somebody we were even beginning to look at and I read the e-mail and was completely blown away by it. I had to meet the guy."

Hayward has experience with Pixar, but only Horton Hears a Who to his directorial credit. Jonah Hex is a dark and gritty western comic book. The pairing will definitely be interesting, no matter what.

Zenescope Takes No Quarter

Best-selling author, motivational speaker and former Philadelphia 76ers President, Pat Croce, will be co-publishing a pirate-themed comic book series with Zenescope Entertainment entitled NO QUARTER. Croce is an expert in pirate history and in 2005 founded THE PIRATE SOUL museum in Key West, Florida. Zenescope Entertainment, a Philadelphia based comic book and graphic novel publisher known mostly for its dark and edgy brand, was also founded in 2005 by Joe Brusha and Ralph Tedesco. NO QUARTER is a “hardcore and gritty pirate series unlike anything seen before,” says Zenescope VP, Ralph Tedesco.

The story follows Charlie Drake, a young man who finds that his bloodline is anything but ordinary, then sets out to find a new life - and in the process becomes a legend.

A preview issue of NO QUARTER, written by Croce (Pirate Soul, I Feel Great and You Will Too!) and Adam Slutsky with artwork by Mark Sparacio (Jonah Hex) and cover by Joe Benitez (The Darkness, Wraithborn), debuts at New York Comic Con February 6th, 2009. The 12-issue maxi-series will be released in May 2009 and will also feature the “Party Like A Pirate” contest in which entrants will have a chance to win a trip to Key West, Florida.
