While the reboot of the Terminator franchise was always expected to be a trilogy, work on the fifth installment is going forward, based on early footage of Terminator Salvation. The plan was always to go for a trilogy with Christian Bale in the title role, but work was not supposed to start on the fifth installment until after Terminator Salvation hit theaters. According to Variety, the fifth Terminator flick is tentatively scheduled for 2011 and will be filmed in the Middle East.
Terminator Salvation director and Supernatural producer, McG, will helm the project.
