Brit-Brit got hit wit' charges, y'all. Britney Spears has been charged with two misdemeanors - driving without a valid California license and hit-and-run causing property damage - stemming from a very minor August 6th incident outside a vitamin store in LA. The owner of the car said she waited until August 9th to file charges because she thought Britney Spears would contact her with insurance information, or an offer to fix the damages, or - something. But Brit-Brit's got too much else on her mind these days to worry about some chick's Benz.
When I first heard about this, I started to really blast LA - it seems like they've been coming down hard on Britney, Paris, Lindsay, and all them fun, party girls - but after I read the whole account... what can you say?
I mean, damn - it's not like she doesn't have the money! According to all accounts, the damage was very minor, but of course, it's a Mercedes, so even a really minor ding can cost quite a bit... for someone like you or me! For Britney, it's nothing more than a night out on the town - and we all know how many of those she's been enjoying lately.
I mean, come on!
I really do sympathize with her over her career, love life, family life, and everything else she's been going through lately, but this is just ridiculous now! Do you realize how well Britney Spears could live off of, say, $100,000 a year? Hell, that's more than most anyone reading this blog makes in several years (I'm assuming - don't take it personally - I just mean that $100k is more than most Americans make in a year, period!) and we manage to make ends meet on occasion. Hell, we have Internet and some way to access it, at the very least.
She could buy a very nice house, still afford to drive a very nice car, and manage very well on a fraction of what she's spending right now. And if she doesn't calm her hot ass down, she's going to have to whether she wants to or not! I mean, it's hard to feel sorry for these girls and guys who have all this money and pretty much the entire world at their feet and yet they can't seem to do the right thing no matter how often they are reminded of what the right thing is!
That being said, I really hate that the media is so rabidly stalking my little - Our, our - little Brit-Brit. So what if she is/was a celebrity? We live in a world where college students who get brutally and continually tasered at an election rally become celebrities, where porn "actors" are celebrities, where folks who get arrested become minor local celebrities ala Cops and the Web, etc.! This bullshit about how she - and all other celebrities - wanted to be in the limelight, so she gets what she deserves, is wearing very, very thin.
But I want to reiterate that Britney Spears is solely to blame in this instance: the woman waited three full days to even file a report, for eff's sake! Brit-Brit had ample time to make good on the damages and could have easily avoided this whole mess, had she done so.
