[adult swim] Orders Buttload of Robot Chicken
Cartoon Network subdivision [adult swim] has ordered 40 more episodes of Seth Green's Robot Chicken. This ensures a fourth and fifth season for what has become the network's biggest hit; Robot Chicken is now [adult swim]'s highest-rated program. Green called the renewal "kind of amazing."
Robot Chicken has been nominated for three Emmys, including one for Green's vioceover performance, and has won four Annies. Such a large order is rare for cable networks, where 13-show seasons are the norm.

Robot Chicken Coming to a Rollerskating Rink Near You
In addition to a viral video in which Robot Chicken castmember, Breckin Meyer, "responds" to Perez Hilton, the Adult Swim show is also touring rollerskating rinks across the country. Robot Chicken writers and stars will be on-hand at rollerskating rinks in eight cities across America, including Kansas City, MO and Indianapolis.
While the video has received nearly 1/2 million views so far, the roller-rink tour is the real draw. Robot Chicken creator/writer/star, Seth Green, will be at all locations, along with other cast and writers of the show. All of this is to promote the release of the show's Star Wars Episode 2 DVD on July 21st. The last nine episodes of the show's fourth season begin airing July 26th.
There will also be a San Diego Comic-Con preview party on the 25th. Hip-hop artists will perform at both the Comic-Con party and the roller-rinks.

The Office Coming to Adult Swim
Adult Swim broke the mainstream entertainment news tonight with details of their acquisition of the British sensation, The Office. This is the original series upon which the American version was based. While the American version comes pretty close to it, in general, The Office is simply brilliant, largely because it is so real. You will feel downright uncomfortable at times, exactly the way you do at work and for the same reasons!
Truly brilliant TV you are sure to love and a fitting match for Adult Swim.

Tim & Eric Appalling Show, Abhorrent Job!
Do you know anyone who likes Tim & Eric Awesome Show, Great Job!? Anyone - just one? If you do, I am about to describe that person to a tee:
Total douchebag. A pretentious trainwreck of a human being who delights in pretending to enjoy utter shit like Tim & Eric Awesome Show, Great Job because it's "ironic." He prides himself in being "antisocial" as a "social experiment" because it's ironic. If you don't share his "anti-taste" in what he asserts as Art, then you just don't "get it" and he sneers at you, but accepts you publicly because it's ironic. Prefers combat boots with khakis, which he tucks in. Are you seeing a theme here?
Do you remember when [adult swim] showed that God-awful Young Person's Guide to History? For like two weeks before it premiered, the bump literally said, "Which you won't like."
WTF!? If someone from [as] is reading this (and I sincerely hope someone is), fuck you. Do you want to know why we didn't like it, or is that ironic? Well, for anyone who cares, we didn't like it because it was really, really, really awful. It was not funny, it was not "cutting-edge," it was not intellectual and it was not pointedly obtuse - it was just plain awful.
How insulting is it for a network to literally tell you they are greenlighting programming they already know you will not like; they're literally saying, "You're a bunch of morons and we're going to do whatever we want, anyway."
Tim & Eric Awesome Show, Great Job is literally what you get when you film two completely untalented boobs doing whatever comes to mind. And I don't care how many equally mediocre quasi-celebrities show-up and give them "props," the show still reeks! In going on three or four years now, there have only ever been two skits which were even mildly humorous: the one about the children's singer, "Bread," and the one where "Spaghet" or whomever got a movie deal. And neither of those would have made it to air on a decent skit show; that those were the only watchable moments in all this time goes to show how terrible this complete hackjob is! Even if this were a good show, two stand-out bits in 40 some-odd episodes is not a good record.
This is the result of the "everybody's a winner" movement! This is what happens when you tell everyone that anything they do qualifies as "art." This is so terrible, it honestly angers me! I truly feel like the show is mocking me!
I understand [adult swim] needs filler - why they don't bother showing some of the better classic cartoons in their vault (like, say, the ones they show on Boomerang), I may never know - but they have some really good shows, and a lot of episodes of those from which to choose. Why would you throw money away on shows you know "we won't like," unless you are literally thumbing your nose at us?
And now they're showing King of the Hill - quite possibly the worst cartoon ever made! If King of the Hill had been a live-action sit-com, it would have been embarrassed off the air 2-3 episodes in. And it is better than Tim & Eric!
There is nothing funny about this show, or Bob Odenkirk, ever. This is not "zany" or "wacky" or "avant-garde;" this is not "obscura" or Dadaist; this is two dipshits who cannot hold regular jobs standing in front of a camera and doing whatever the hell comes to mind until they run out of steam, then editing it down and airing it. Everything Bob Odenkirk does is a specific example of what happens when you're an overrated hack who runs out of material literally two minutes into everything you do. He just starts acting bizarrely to draw attention away from the fact that he is not talented and is actually doing nothing at all. Adam Sandler gets inappropriately angry and starts yelling.
Tim & Eric actually offends me because I know for a fact that no one at Williams Street is sitting around talking about how we "just don't get it." I know this because [adult swim] has quality shows - Venture Bros., Moral Orel, The Oblongs - so this is not a case of obscura not finding its niche in the mainstream, this is a very specific insult to [adult swim] viewers and I'm getting tired of it. I'm sick and tired of being force-fed crap - especially from people with an elitist attitude.
A show that is not entertaining is not "ironic," it is just a bad show.
And I'll tell you something else: The Life and Times of Tim is better than anything [adult swim] has done in going on five years.

This Season's Venture Bros.
Once again, I could not sleep and, once again, [adult swim] took me in like the wayward stepson I am. So here I am at 3-some-odd in the AM, watching a Venture Bros. rerun and then some good old Frisky Dingo, when it occurred to me that I basically missed both seasons of these shows! Was it just me?
I saw a single article related to the season finale of Venture Brothers and though it was positive, it was the only one I saw! I saw nothing relating to Frisky Dingo and am not even sure if it is coming back! I hope it does because when it rocked, it ROCKED. When you see an episode of Sealab 2021 against basically any episode of Frisky Dingo, there is just no comparison; Frisky Dingo blows Sealab right out of the water - literally. And yet, neither show managed to generate so much as a slight buzz online - at least not one I noticed.
I love both shows and hope they both continue on for many, many seasons, but I have to wonder if most everyone else lost the [adult swim] vibe there for the last year or so. The programming really hit the shitter and stayed there a while. I think a whole lot of the audience - myself included - moved on to other late-night fare and it is hard to get back in the [as] swing.
Publick and 70/30 should jump all over Ted Turner; the programming snafu seems to have hit their little projects quite hard.

Adult Swim Inspires Teens to Murder
Yeah, not really - but it got your attention, didn't it?
Three incidents involving notebooks supposedly inspired by the anime, Death Note, now running on [adult swim], have resulted in disciplinary actions in schools. But the latest incident, involving two 12-year olds in Alabama, has resulted in criminal charges.
The cartoon, inspired by the manga of the same name, involves a teenager who discovers a supernatural book which allows him to kill people simply by writing their name on one of the pages. Thanks largely to the anime series on [adult swim], the manga series has risen to the top of the American charts. However, Death Note has been adapted into several mediums, including two live-action movies and a novel.
Some teens have taken to creating their own Death Note notebooks and students in Virginia and South Carolina faced disciplinary actions following the discovery of their notebooks. However, Alabama po-lice don't brook none o' that-there funny stuff, and them Good Ol' Boys arrested two adolescents for making death threats when their Death Note-inspired notebook came to light.
Ah, the South... would somebody just nuke it, already? Please?

Adult Swim Scores!
Well, tonight was a good one! FINALLY!
It's been a pretty damned long time since Adult Swim actually had an entire night of decent entertainment. Over the past year or so, we have gotten a lot of nights with one or two good shows, a few nights with an entire night of pretty good shows, and night after night of abject shit.
Tonight's Aqua Teen Hunger Force was actually funny! My guess is that someone got sick and they had to let the intern who really, really loves the show step-in at the last minute to do punch-ups ("Punch-ups? Like donkeypunchin'? Like DP? Remember - you remember that one? What... like what was your thought process - like, what were you thinking when you wrote that one?"). They even got to be subversive while they did it! See? Being subversive and funny are actually not mutually exclusive concepts, y'all! Let's try to keep it up, can we?
After that was the premiere of Fuh-risky Dingo, and those cats just can't do no wrong. Truly funny stuff.
The OddBlog template upgrade did not go as planned, but the good thing is that the feed is working again (for now). I found a template which should work and I am going to try and get it online tomorrow, once I am done doing all my bill-paying and stuff. If I don't end up back in jail (knock wood). In the meantime, I am going to leave it on the BlogSpot server so I can get more done; it takes way too long to publish via FTP. There is also another option I am looking into tomorrow, but couldn't find out more about before then because my ISP's customer service is closed over the weekends. After that, I am going to change the template here to our fair Rundown.
There is a whole lot of new RPG content headed for The Weirding this month, as well. I am trying to get sponsors and advertisers situated before I start publishing, because once I publish them, I am going to be aggressively promoting and marketing the entire thing. There will be a general sitewide update, but it will mostly be transparent to viewers - minor changes and bug corrections.
So, here's to new beginnings all the way around: Adult Swim is finally funny again (knock wood) and The Weirding is actually getting some content (God willing)!
It's like Christmas without all the condoms.

Well, we finally got to a few things today. I feel slightly accomplished.
Seven comes on tonight on TCM. In fact, they have Oscar-nominated movies all month long and they have been showing some fantastic ones so far! I watched some great flicks from the '80s all night last night.
Now, I'm watching [adult swim] for the new Aqua Teen Hunger Force. Last week's episode didn't make me completely abjectly depressed, so I'm almost looking forward to this week's. Anyway, got some more stuff to get to tomorrow, but seeing as how I'm feeling all accomplished and stuff, I figure I'm going to break it off for the evening.
Everyone bundle-up and enjoy the boob-tubing - it's gonna be a cold one tonight!

New ATHF & Squidbillies - A Review
Well... let's talk about the good stuff first.
And with that out of the way, let's look at the bad:
The new seasons of [adult swim]'s Aqua Teen Hunger Force and Squidbillies premiered just a few minutes ago and I could have jumped up and set about reviewing them immediately, but I really had to wait. I started to wait until I see the replay, but I honestly don't think I'm going to make it; they just weren't good enough to stay up for twice.
Squidbillies is still fairly consistent - it never makes much sense and relies on non-linear progression, but it generally makes you laugh at least once, and it's usually a pretty good laugh. ATHF, on the other hand...
Aqua Teen Hunger Force has literally been a semi-underground pop-culture phenomenon for going on six years now (I know - I didn't realize it had been that long, either!), but it completely jumped the shark last season and, if this premiere is any indication, it has yet to find its way back. I think we may just have to accept that not being funny is part of ATHF's neuvo "allure." ATHF has gone completely Adam Sandler, where it doesn't even bother to try and be funny - it just tries to be pointless and stupid in the hopes that the audience will giggle because we don't know what else to do.

The Frisky Dingo Interview Returns!
FINALLY! The Frisky Dingo interview (with 70-30's Matt Thompson, co-creator of the series, as well as Sealab 2021) is back up... I hope.
I worked on it all night Saturday and while everything looked fine on this end, when I uploaded it, all the URLs for the pictures got hosed. Don't ask me how or why - I've tried all day to figure it out. I reset everything on this end and it still did it when I uploaded them. So I went in and manually fixed all the links and everything looks okay now... but I'm just guessing.
Like I said over to The Wording, it's like the car thing: it works fine one second, then it won't start for shit, then it cranks right up... and, just like the car, I tore these pages apart, hard-coded the problem areas, double-checked all the settings, and it still wouldn't act right once it hit the server!
At any rate, the interview is back up and I have to say, it's a pretty fun read, so if you haven't seen it yet, make sure to make it an Action Item on your To-Do List.
I worked on it all night Saturday and while everything looked fine on this end, when I uploaded it, all the URLs for the pictures got hosed. Don't ask me how or why - I've tried all day to figure it out. I reset everything on this end and it still did it when I uploaded them. So I went in and manually fixed all the links and everything looks okay now... but I'm just guessing.

Family Guy Hit with New Lawsuit
Family Guy caught yet another lawsuit, thanks to an episode even the FOX Network deemed to offensive to air originally. An episode in which Peter Griffin sings a song entitled I Need a Jew to the tune of the Pinnochio classic, When You Wish Upon a Star, never aired on the FOX Network but did air on the Cartoon Network's [adult swim] programming block. The Bourne Co., which owns the rights to the song, claimed the Family Guy version was Anti-Semitic and damaged the tune's standing as a childhood classic.
As we reported earlier, Family Guy was recently hit with a similar lawsuit by none other than legendary actress, Carol Burnett. While that lawsuit was dismissed, the judge did mention that "...it takes far more creative talent to create a character such as the Charwoman than to use such characters in crude parody."
FOX has not responded to the lawsuit.

Robot Chicken Star Wars Special
Wow, it's like we have been on theme mode since the Paris Hilton debacle. Almost two solid weeks of her, then I saw Party Monster and threw in posts on those, and it doesn't stop. Seth Green is back... with a vengeance.

That Seth Green is one talented feller, ain't he? He has been on pretty much every cable channel going this weekend and done a heck of a job in everything in which he's appeared - which is par for the course for him.
And don't forget Red Eye over to FNC at 1:00 AM (CST) and Super Troopers over on IFC.
Muchos comics news on the way later tonight/tomorrow. Can you feel the love?

How Boston Extorted Money from [adult swim]
Months ago, we reported how the city of Boston thought that signs showing one of the Mooninites (I can't recall which one, maybe Ignitnok or whatever) flipping the bird were actually explosive devices. Why, we have no idea.
As I first reported, I thought maybe I could understand how such a mistake could be made, specifically because they were first referring to them as "vandalism" and possibly "incendiary devices." I didn't find it hard to believe that anyone would not know what Aqua Teen Hunger Force is, but I found it pretty damned hard to believe that everyone would not know what ATHF is. And then I thought about that scene in Fight Club, where they scale the building and set it on fire and paint the smiley face on it. So I guessed I could understand the mistake.
That's before I saw the signs.
There's no way anyone in their right mind could mistake the obviously silly ads for anything other than possibly "vandal art." To charge someone with vandalism over these signs is a stretch, but to make a Homeland Security issue out of this whole thing is shameful.
But, now, let's not forget: Boston is a known Mob-run city, so such extortion tactics have obviously become ingrained in their collective population. They charged the independent contractors who were hired to place the signs around town, then used that as a bargaining chip to extort $2 million from Time-Warner and Cartoon Network for supposedly harming their city.
People of Boston? You harmed your city. You elected these dipshits who can't tell the difference between a cartoon character and a bomb! You didn't have one person in the entire city that even knew what the cartoon was or had the balls to stand up and say, "That's a cartoon character, you dummies!" You opportunists sat down and kept your mouths shut and profited off the entire thing.
Boston should be ashamed of their knee-jerk reaction, their collective inaction, and their extortive action. As a city, as people, as Americans, and as human beings.
Were I these two contractors, now that charges have been dropped, I'd sell my homes, move my families as far away from that shithole as humanly possible, and write a book. Then I'd call [adult swim] and get a few guest spots doing voice-over work to help promote them, then send out a press release to bloggers like myself, and make sure you get your part of that $2 million.
After all, why should the politicos of Boston, Massachussetts be the only ones whose hookers and dope are paid for by your simple mistake?

Coming Up...
As I've said elsewhere, and off and on this entire month, this whole month has sucked eggs. And, of course, a lot of cool stuff has happened while I've been under the gun.
First of all, I'd like to apologize to all of our sponsors who we let down the past few weeks. If you'd been here, you'd know how hard we tried to get to everything, but it just wasn't possible. Between the driver issues with the XP computer and whatever the heck's wrong with the 98 computer, there simply wasn't any time. All I've done this entire month is work on computers and I honestly don't know if this one is fixed or not. So far, it seems to be working, but I don't want to jinx it, so I'll just say, "Things are looking less than completely dismal so far, God willing, knock wood."
Tomorrow, I'll get to all the cool new shows on [adult swim] last night, as well as the few bad ones. There was some cool comics news on the Web earlier, as well as some interesting developments in some of the other news we've been following. Heroes was on earlier... that's probably all I have to say about that, but I'll think of something. We'll get to the weekend's box office results and - if we're really, really lucky - absolutely nothing about how these computers are or are not working!
