The Weirding Webzine

Everything is subject to change, but I am starting a webzine. The blog will continue, as will the blog @RPGGeek, and both will continue to be free as long as the controlling entities decide they are (over which I've no control), but I've never done this for the money and so have never made any money. This webzine is meant to not only recoup some of these costs I've put into this fine hobby, but also allow me to bring you content for which blogs and websites are less well-suited - such as tables, charts, and quality art scans.

A general price range of $3.99-4.99 has been decided for roughly 25 pages in (at this time) PDF only. I may use KickStarter under the advice of other creators, but will also be using DTRPG (hopefully). Depending on the success, I will invest in better software and equipment to up the production value but will keep the price range as long as the page count remains roughly the same. I am basing this cost on the current price of comic books, and may even engage in a little cartoonery myself.

Nothing in this 'zine will be AI-generated or -enhanced. That may not be a good thing, since I am the sole creator. I reached-out to others in hopes of collaborating, but it's the Internet... that has never worked out before, so I didn't have high hopes for it working this time and was not disappointed. I can include tables and charts without a bunch of formatting problems in a desktop publishing atmosphere, and charging a small amount for the extra information, original art, and labor involved seems pretty fair.

Along with tons of never-before-seen content, I will be editing and reformatting the stuff that was previously on The Weirding website and supporting a lot of older games, not unlike I do here. Newer product and content, not so much (because I haven't played it). This goes all the way down to retro-reviews of games, comics, books, movies, and TV shows you may love or might have missed. Anything that has appeared here or elsewhere that makes it into the 'zine will be significantly expanded, as I'll have more room and formatting play to do so, so just consider what is posted here to be a teaser for more in-depth articles and feature presentations I hope to bring you within the 'zine.

If I do Kickstarter, it will be at the lowest goal without any tier bonuses, and the 'zine will be published even if I am not popular enough to garner the meager amount I hope for - which would be embarrassing, but here we go...

Note, not unlike this blog and my other products, this 'zine is aimed at old-school grognards and neckbeards like myself - metalheads and burnouts who just so happen to enjoy tabletop roleplaying games. If you do not count yourself as one of us, I still hope you give it a shot! You never know what you might find that you can use in your next gaming session, including older games you might not even know exist and can be gotten for very reasonable prices these days!

I know this is dry, but Kickstarter has a promotion which starts in February, so I'm a little pressed for time. I'll be posting previews and works-in-progress along the way so you get an idea of what you'll be getting.

Ch-Ch-Ch-Changes

Pop Pop!

Changes galore!  I apologize for all the wonkiness while we undergo some upgrades, upkeep, and so forth.  Some links may not work, or may not have been updated in a while, and stuff is likely to be difficult to find if you're a returning visitor.

I know I've mostly posted upcoming covers here the past few years, as I've been focused on (a lot of) other stuff, but I'll do my best to drop by more often with some pithy... pith.  I'll still be posting a lot of covers, though, so there will be daily activity.  Remember, these posts are scheduled well in advance -- weeks, months, even years (holiday posts, mostly) -- so please overlook hiccups should they occur.

There have been a lot of shenanigans online as of late, and 99% of it leads directly back to politically-motivated criminal organizations -- such as Facebook, for one example, and entities supporting ISrael and other, rabidly Right-Wing terrorists and terrorist entities.  Many of these hide behind candyass, Mickey Mouse religions they can't even comprehend, and hardly adhere to.  I blame Black Metal.

If you have suffered any inconvenience -- headaches, technical issues, identity theft (including the loss of online personal accounts, such as those on social media, or having been accosted by the like ["sock puppet" accounts]), anything -- due to any content here or on any of the associated sites, know that I have not been able to access the back end of the website for over two years now due to the same.  Please disregard the constabulary, as they are directly to blame, and find a lawyer.

Then have your lawyer contact my lawyer, because the Law is surprisingly malleable and wide open to interpretation.

I reiterate: I, too, have been the victim of whatever the hell's going on, and have suffered e-mail outages, (apparently) re-routed DNS "hijacking" attacks, telephone troubles, (apparent) set-top box breaches, and more.  Some of this was due to links and even ads on the site(s), and I have been unable to remove them for years now, as I was blocked from accessing the back-end of the site entirely -- making it impossible to edit, or remove, anything.  Everything I was able to source came back to Federal agencies, and/or "private" companies working for government-affiliated agencies, in this country or another.

Mostly the War Crime, ISrael.

UPDATE Not to jinx it, but I may have (knock wood) restored limited access to the site, but it's going to take a while to update everything -- probably an entire redesign.  Project Wonderful has since gone under, as have G+ and our Twitter account, and we no longer use Facebook either, so it's a major undertaking and I have no ETA even if my luck holds out and I can still get to the damned thing.  UPDATE 2:  Chitika just folded yesterday, effective immediately.

The Weirding is Under Attack!!!!

Seriously though, over the last several years, we have had our individual social media accounts hacked, at least two of our e-mail accounts, and more. Many of these were sending out advertisements for bands, music, gear, and the usual spam. We obviously didn't do this. In fact, we were not even aware of this because they did not show up in our "Sent" folders, Timelines or Feeds, or anywhere else; we mostly learned about them from others and, by the time we did, they were gone.

Authorities were alerted to this years ago and have contacted us on occasion regarding newer instances but all we have been told is that they are working on it and that it is apparently "Federal" in nature (as I'm somewhat certain it's a felonious crime).

At least a few occasions, the attacks appear to have coincided with when we've either left accounts "logged-in" or simply saved our passwords in autoform-fill, but there's no way for us to know that for sure.

We *do* advertise on the sites and blogs - which is why Google blacklisted this blog, in particular - and I, for one, feel no fear in suggesting that Google has some part in this but AGAIN, we really don't know and on one's told us yet.

So, if you're wondering why we haven't been able to bring you more cool stuff more quickly, part of it has to do with the fact that we've had to buy additional security. Which apparently doesn't work.

The B-Raters

If you've been following the blog at all the last several months, you already know we get together and mock a B-rated movie every Saturday night around 9:30pm, CST. Usually these movies are of the exploitative variety (no, NOT porn!) but we watch films from all eras, almost all of which are really, very bad.

While we are going to continue running the promos here, we have moved the majority of the announcements to another blog. In addition to that, you will also find information on B-rated movies, film making, and all the rest of that jazz related to what it is we do (make fun of terrible movies and shit).

The new blog is named after us, The B-Raters, so check it out! But you are supposed to be 18 or older to do so.

The Weirding Theater Presents White Zombie

No, not the band! This Saturday night at 9:30pm CST, The Weirding Theater Presents watches the 1932 Bela Lugosi movie White Zombie, from which the band got its name. We're not sure why said zombie's heritage was such an issue but let's face it, black zombies just don't sell tickets - even in 1932. The more things change, huh? Sensitive viewers can be assured that racially-inappropriate jokes will be made throughout the viewing. Sensitive zombies probably shouldn't watch at all.

White Zombie officially kicks-off our October-long month o' slashers (we know we did a Devil Flick last week - we were there!) which replaces the "31 Days of Horror Movie Reviews" we've done (with some success, once or twice) the last several years.

The Weirding Theater Presents The Devil's Daughter

Last week, The Weirding Theater Presents gang took on a X-ian Rapture film so, to keep things even (just in case the Devil is real), we'll be watching The Devil's Daughter LIVE this Saturday night around 9:30pm CST. Just covering our collective ass, you know, just in case.

Yet another made-for-TV movie-of-the-week from the Goddamned 1970s, when Devil Flicks were churned-out like Internet pornography - only with lower budgets and less-talented performers reading from shabbier scripts.

The Weirding Theater Presents The Moment After 1

With that ambitious a title, we're expecting really great things from this weekend's flick, The Moment After 1. It takes the bold approach few X-ian films dare in dealing with The Apocalypse that's sure to happen any fucking moment.

And what will we all do... The Moment After 1?

Whatever it is, it obviously takes more than A Moment since this movie has a sequel.

For any potential X-ian viewers fearful that we are going to mock their religion and/or religious beliefs, we will set your minds at ease: We are definitely going to be mocking your religion and religious beliefs.

The Weirding Overhaul Update

I guess I should number these update posts but we'd be well into the triple digits or so by now and I don't feel like going back to count them all.

ANYwho, I told you that we were not just updating the site but overhauling it as well - design, structure, even adding new content - and I know that's been a while back. Traditionally (like, since we launched nearly a decade ago), we release updates on Halloween and this time will be no different but we've already started updating and overhauling so, if you haven't checked us out lately, please take a moment to do so!

We have a literal shit-ton of stuff headed your way but it takes time, so be sure to check back often to see what's going on.

The Weirding Theater Presents Beyond the Bermuda Triangle

This Saturday around 9:30pm CST, The Weirding Theater takes to uncharted waters to watch both Fred MacMurray and Donna Mills sink their careers in the made-for-TV movie-of-the-week, Beyond the Bermuda Triangle. So, like, Cuba; we're going to Cuba.

We already do not need a bigger boat and we promise a temporary moratorium on Jaws references. We're going for Piranha references.

In these trying times, in this country too often torn asunder by racial division, we decided it was in everyone's best interest to include at least one blaxploitation flick every now and again. Because we give a shit.

The Weirding needs you!

We don't much care what your skillset is so long as you are willing to not only contribute, but get down with "The Program." Like all websites and companies, The Weirding has, and is, cultivating what may seem to many to be a rather haphazard sort of "branding" (although we bristle at such a notion). That is to say that we have a direction in which we wish to take this site and whatever other media/content may result from it and we need like-minded people to join the fun.

The truth is that we cannot pay you outright due to tax regulations but we are not asking you to work "for free." We receive a shit-ton of what (we think) the kids call "swag" and we'll give you that shit. We also provide you with working materials, including programs, and other resources to help facilitate your output and personalize your workspace. Your work is unlikely to be seen by many because we get like zero visitors but you are expected to promote the site and content, including your own. We don't need programmers, so your job at McDonald's is secure, but if you're good at coding and/or webdesign, The Weirding could definitely use a facelift.

Requirements:

• This is a "Nerd-Culture" site - a nerdery, a nerderarium - more specifically, a culture site curated by actual nerds. Watching Dr. Who does not make you a "geek" anymore so than liking comic book movies does.
• Comic book appreciation, history, knowledge (including creators and companies) is mandatory.
• Pop-Culture knowledge is mandatory.
•  Movie buff knowledge is mandatory, specifically regarding B-raters and splatterflicks.
• Knowledge of HTML is a must; DHTML, CSS, JS, Java, Pearl, Ruby on Rails, et. al. is all a plus. 
• Knowledge of FTP is mandatory
• We welcome ideas just not yours.
• Photoshop (by any means - GIMP, Paint.Net, et. al.) is a must.
• Metal (Heavy, Death, Doom, Progressive, Classic, et. al.) is a must. NO BLACK METAL (King Diamond and Mercyful Fate being the obvious the exceptions.)
• Rudimentary knowledge of Art is necessary - composition, color scheme, personalities, works, et. al. This does not include Art History, though that is a bonus.
• Blogging knowledge adamant - including use of tags/labels, Template/Layout, et. al.
• You will be expected to help maintain blogs and social media outlets.
• Full participation in American holidays mandatory.
• Creators' Rights are fully respected and will remain intact. The Weirding's rights to display your work are not contractual nor considered "work for hire" but denote an implied relationship with the understanding that they may be used for promotional and/or decorative purposes.
• Tasks are assigned and expected to be completed although deadlines are negotiable
• If you consider yourself some sort of "improvisational comedian" who wishes to become a regular on the B-Rater, we're happy to audition you. You will not appear on the LIVE show until you pass the audition and have been tested off-air.

Depending on certain circumstances an NDNC is required in full (mail-in).
Note the "Non-Compete" clause is negotiable.

Welcome to Rated B

We're changing our name!

Yes, when I named the Fear the Outside weblog The Rundown in, or around, 2002-03, it was a rather quick decision that I'd given far less thought to than I should have. Truthfully, I'm reasonably certain I cribbed it from Bill O'Reilly's show. Hey, it was a time of war and sacrifices had to made - quick decisions could have saved some lives back then! This quick decision did none of that but Goddammit, it could have.

Of course, "The Rundown" is about as original a title as "Ass Invaders 28" but movies so entitled tend to do fairly well, so... Although the weblog itself has been online since around 1997-98, it had no title and once GeoCities went under, it disappeared. I saved a lot of that material although I've reposted little to none of it. Also, as a weblog, it had no specific purpose or subject matter - it dealt with everything from what I was feeling about everything from relationships to annoying commercials to comic books and movies, et. al. Furthermore, naming blogs wasn't important at all back then, so there didn't seem to be much sense in spending a lot of time overthinking it.

Then, when the BLOGGING BOOM came and went, a literal glut of blogs with the same title - mostly shitty and almost all of which have changed hands numerous times since then - emerged and quickly overtook us in the search engines. So, this title change - while well overdue and definitely something I've been wanting to do for a very, very long time - does have some business connection.

Still, the nature of the entire thing has changed over the years and I want the title to reflect that.

Because we accept non-Google AdWords advertisements, it is listed as a "spam" blog by that organized crime syndicate. Because I refuse to "pay protection" to these thugs and their strongarm tactics, we will not be requesting reconsideration for inclusion into their paid directory - ahem, "search engine."

We fully realize this is a BlogSpot blog, owned by the monopoly which has to remind itself and its employees to "Not be Evil," and that this may well mean this blog's termination on Comcast's Google's servers. If so, you will then be able to find Rated-B on The Weirding directly.

This Saturday The Weirding Theater watches Devil of the Desert Against the Son of Hercules. We don't screen these movies beforehand so we don't know which son we're gonna get but the title promises one of them and we're holding it to that.

Yongary: Monster from the Deep this Saturday

Every Saturday, The Weirding crew gets together and watches a movie. Most of these movies are complete shit but that's what makes them so enjoyable. This week, the movie is Yongary: Monster from the Deep.

Since we don't screen the films before watching them, I have no real idea as to what, exactly, Yongary is about but I have a pretty good idea that it's going to suck. That makes me happy because I'm certain its lack of quality will inspire within me some choice words for the movie and everyone involved with bringing it to my computer screen.

Update

I told you this update would take a while but part of that has to do with publishing the pages in a timely manner for the search engines. Still, it takes a while to successfully design and test each webpage. I try to go for about a day per page but that rarely works. Most pages take several days just because there are so many elements. Designing a template takes twice as long because you have to double-check everything.

Some of the Directories have been updated and the rest of the pages will be rolled-out over the next few weeks. The old pages will be left in place for the time-being, so you shouldn't notice an interruption in navigation. There will be a new index and all of that eventually but that is one of the last things to be published as all the other pages must already be in place.

We really are looking for a better way to do our little Internet show, it's just that none of us has any previous experience with video and it isn't something you can learn overnight. Time spent doing that takes time away from designing and publishing the site as well as other projects. While time management may seem like the most important thing, you are mixing creative and practical endeavors which carry different mindsets and priorities and it can be difficult and tiresome to switch between these.

Speaking of acclimating, I just got new hardware and software. I had to do this on credit, so I'm also having to set aside some time for paid work pursuits and there haven't been a lot of those lately. I really couldn't afford all of it even on a credit card, so that's maxed-out now and I'm having to stay on a strict budget due to the payments (but only for a few months, as I bought a refurbished computer and my credit limit isn't exactly "high" to begin with).

Meanwhile, we are still recording the show because we enjoy doing it anyway. No one really watches the live broadcast but people are starting to visit the recorded videos. It really is a pain to have two videos going simultaneously, and difficult to keep synchronized, but we don't know another way to do it yet. We're also working on a chatroom app to use while watching the playback and we'll try to be around from time to time to join in the chat.

On an even more personal note, I had company all week long the week before last and it took me a week to recover! I'm getting back in the swing of things now.

I didn't keep up with whatever went on at SDCC this year but I haven't paid much attention to Comic-Con for a few years now. Some of the reports I read confirmed what I'd thought, in that it's become more of an expo for Hollywood than having anything to do with comics and games. I think it's great that so many people are having a good time with it but it isn't something that I have anymore than a passing interest in.

We're ignoring the poor grammar in the title alone, which should probably give you some clue as to the quality of this 1978 made-for-TV classic, only because it has a surplus of Quaids... if you are of the mind that any Quaid is too much Quaid.

Mole Men Against Son of Hercules - TONIGHT! LIVE!

Okay, so this is a bit late but I have had company all week - and I do mean all week - long!

Tonight we tackle the Mole Men Against the Son of Hercules! We'll start with the Mole Men then work our way up to Son of Hercules - that dude's bound to be pretty big! Plus those Mole Men are bound to play dirty, so it's probably best to take them out first.
