Alan Moore on Watchmen, Hollywood

Watchmen
Watchmen
You may have noticed most movies based on works by Alan Moore don't "translate" well to the screen.  Part of that is because Alan Moore wants nothing to do with them.

The answers are intelligent, numerous, and deep.  At the essence of everything else Moore says, every point he makes, Alan Moore says that he does comic books.  Put another way: you can't tell the stories he tells in any other medium, so why try?

I have to admit, my choice for a magnum opus out of the entire medium -- were we to choose -- isn't even Watchmen's direct competition in most peoples' minds (Dark Knight Returns), it would be Elektra: Assassin.  But I digress.  Still, I want to see Watchmen go over well on the big screen as much as anyone who read it -- but, I have to wonder if Moore is right.

DC has ordered at least 200k more copies of the Watchmen graphic novel. Already, it is the best-selling graphic novel of 2008 and is at #5 on Amazon.
