This is a press release:

There will be a reception at 6:30 p.m. followed by the Midwestern debut screening of the documentary “Dreams with Sharp Teeth: A Film about Harlan Ellison,” at 7 p.m.

The evening will feature live tributes to the renowned author by special guests, as well as an appearance by Ellison himself.

A resident of Los Angeles, Harlan Ellison was born and raised in Cleveland and Painesville, Ohio. He is one of the most widely read and honored writers of the past sixty years. Ellison has written or edited 75 books and has published more than 1700 stories, essays, articles and columns. He is also the author of dozens of scripts for television series including Star Trek, Outer Limits, The Starlost, The Twilight Zone, The Alfred Hitchcock Hour, Masters of Science Fiction and many others. He has won the Writers Guild of America award for outstanding solo teleplay work an unprecedented four times.

Ellison’s books include the ground-breaking anthologies, Dangerous Visions (1967) and Again Dangerous Visions (1972); thirty collections of short stories including I Have No Mouth & I Must Scream (1967), Shatterday (1980), Angry Candy (1988), Slippage (1997), The Essential Ellison: A 50 Year Retrospective (2001) and Mind Fields: The Art of Jacek Yerka, The Fiction of Harlan Ellison (2006); plus collections of his riveting non-fiction and essays, such as The Glass Teat (1970), Sleepless Nights in the Procrustean Bed (1984), An Edge in My Voice (1985) and Harlan Ellison’s Watching (1992).

His 1961 rockabilly novel Spider Kiss, reissued in 2006, is the only novel in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Among his dozens of awards and honors are three Nebula Awards from the Science Fiction Writers of America, eight-and-half Hugo Awards, two Mystery Writers of America Edgar Allan Poe awards, six Horror Writers Association Bram Stoker awards, the World Fantasy Award, the British Fantasy Award, the American Mystery Award, and the Silver Pen for Journalism from P.E.N. In May 2006, Harlan Ellison was named the latest of only 29 Grand Masters of the Science Fiction/Fantasy Writers of America, joining ranks with Ray Bradbury, Isaac Asimov and Sir Arthur Clarke.

“Dreams with Sharp Teeth” is produced and directed by Erik Nelson. Nelson was executive producer of “The U.S. vs. John Lennon” (2006), “Leonard Cohen: I’m Your Man” (2005), and the award-winning documentary, “Grizzly Man” (2005).

The Washington Post Book World called Harlan Ellison “One of the great living American short story writers,” and The Los Angeles Times said, “It’s long past time for Harlan Ellison to be awarded the title: 20th Century Lewis Carroll.”

Seating will be on a first-come-first-serve basis. Cleveland Public Library is located at 325 Superior Avenue. Call (216) 623-2881 for more information.
