Comedienne, Catherine Tate, who appeared as Dr. Who's assistant in last year's Christmas special and will be his assistant throughout this season's run (along with appearances by former assistant, Martha Jones), said in an interview with Radio 2's Jonathan Ross that this may be David Tennant's last season as the Timelord.
While both the BBC and the actor have refused to comment, when pressed on the issue, Tate said Tennant would "possibly" return, but gave no further details.
If Tennant leaves, this will be the second time in the current run that Dr. Who has changed appearances. Heroes alum, Christopher Eccleston, portrayed the science-fiction icon in the first series/season.
Doctor Who is the longest-running sci-fi series on TV. The series began its run in 1963, under producer, the late Verity Lambert. Doctor Who runs on both BBCA and the Sci-Fi Channel in America. This year's Christmas special will air on BBC1 in the UK on Christmas day.
