If you have ever heard Sarah Silverman's stand-up act, you know how raunchy and anti-PC she can be. If you've ever seen Sarah Silverman, you know exactly how hairy a hot chick can be before it begins to detract from her au-natural beauty. And she brings all this personality and hair to her new Comedy Central show, The Sarah Silverman Program.
It airs twice on Thursday nights and it's pretty damned funny. Silverman is one of the few comics working who can be both shocking and funny -- not simply funny because she's shocking -- and her show is definitely not for the easily-offended, which I love! If you are squeamish when it comes to off-color humor, then this is not for you; it makes Family Guy look and sound like a Saturday morning cartoon.
She lives with her sister, who dates a cop, and next door to Brian Posehn and his character's gay lover. I'm pretty sure David Cross and all the Odenkirks will show up at some point. At any rate, each episode finds Sarah getting herself into some crazy situation thanks to her blatant ignorance and self-absorption. Like Silverman herself, the situations are outlandish and offensive to... well, pretty much everyone.
It sounds a lot like Curb Your Enthusiasm but the tone is completely different and it's carefully scripted. She often breaks into song (which I can do without), but they're funny, short, and move the story along, so you don't really mind them -- not to mention that it's something different, at any rate.
Definitely fun!
