2 September 2008 (Berkeley, CA) - SAVAGE DRAGON's recent endorsement of Barack Obama heated up headlines from the New York Times to the Huffington Post and has led to a pre-release distributor-level sell out, resulting in an emergency second printing to meet demand.
"A lot of people have asked me whether or not Dragon would run again this election, but given its importance, I decided to have him bow out," said Savage Dragon creator Erik Larsen. "Given Dragon's history and the opinions he expressed during his own run, Obama really was the only candidate for Dragon to endorse, my own opinions aside."
The SAVAGE DRAGON #137 second printing will feature an altered version of the Barack Obama cover, including a new background and trade dress.
SAVAGE DRAGON #137 2nd PTG (JUL088177D), a 32-page full color comic book for $2.99, will be in stores September 10th, 2008.

I told you it could happen!
A sell-out at the distributor level means retail orders exceeded the original print run after the order went to print. In other words, Image sent the printer an order to print x copies and an order for n copies (<x) came in.
While it can be argued that some publishers do this purposefully, the truth is that it is not a good policy; printing costs more than it's worth and publishers rarely cash-in on collectible values. Publishers make their money on the retail cost, not the resale value.
