An original sketch of Winnie the Pooh lunching with Mole and Rat fetched about $45,000 at auction the other day, going for over twice the estimated price expected.
The sketch was sold by the family of the artist, EH Shepard. It appeared in expanded form in one of the many Winnie the Pooh books by AA Milne. The children's stories continue to be popular to this day, having first appeared in the late 1920s.
Other works on the block included one from the Wind in the Willows series which went for over $10,000 and "archive material" from illustrator, Beatrix Potter.
