Neil Gaiman's seminal Sandman is headed to a TV screen in front of you! According to reports, Warner Bros. TV is looking to acquire the rights from sister company, DC, and Supernatural's Eric Kripke is in the front-running to helm the planned show. HBO had originally been the choice channel for Sandman, but talks never panned-out. Sandman was also planned as a movie but that project, which lurched slowly forward from the 1990s, stalled.
Neil Gaiman, the original author and creator of the comic series, was not involved in the earlier incarnations of Sandman's planned move to the screen, but is apparently interested in becoming involved. Kripke has also expressed interest, but nothing has been finalized. Once again, Sandman's planned foray into the live, or animated, medium remains in the air, but many are hopeful this option will come to fruition.
Sandman not only won several awards within the comic book industry, it won awards outside of it as well, and also spawned a rabid fanbase, many of whom were female. Producers and creators worry that every decision will be scrutinized by this fanbase, and the slightest misstep could result in yet another failed attempt to pull Sandman and crew out of the printed panel.
