Pirates Steals Box Office, Record

Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End took in a global record of over $401 million this weekend, beating the record-holder, Spider-Man 3, which set the record earlier this month. Pirates also broke another record, opening in more theaters than any other film in history - well over 4000. Amazingly, it still came in at only the 4th largest-opening movie, behind this year's Spider-Man 3 and Shrek the Third! The third in that list is PotC: Dead Man's Chest. Still, it also broke the Memorial Day weekend record, previously held by X-Men 3.

2007 is the first year in which 3 movies have opened with over $100 million and this Memorial Day weekend is the biggest weekend for movies ever, with over $265 million taken in.

Friedkin's Bug came in 4th and Disturbia managed to stay in the top five. 28 Weeks Later fell to 6th, and Hot Fuzz fell out of the top 10 to 15th.
