Comics Day, August 2007

This is the first shipment I’ve received this month and most of it is the DC comics to which I subscribed last month, just as I’d thought. Like I said, I hadn’t expected it, but once I read the new books, I realized they were coming out fortnightly, so I’m pleased with that. As damned hot as it’s been lately, it gives me something to do indoors, aside from this computer!

It was 107° Tuesday or Wednesday, 111-113° yesterday and 100-something° right now! It was so hot yesterday that we were driving 65 down the highway and my skin was burning like I was sunbathing! I stopped sweating and was having trouble catching my breath! No lie. Of course, we had been out and about for a couple hours by that point and I had been drinking the night before, so I was already on the verge of dehydration. I got inside and drank several glasses of ice water, then took a nap and I was fine, but when I stopped sweating and couldn’t catch my breath and my skin was burning, I got pretty scared for a moment. I’m not ashamed.

BUT ANYWAY, here is the shipment I received today:
  • Black Canary #2
  • Green Arrow: Year One #2
  • Texas Chainsaw Massacre: About a Boy #1
  • Comics Journal #284
  • Walking Dead #39
  • All New Official Handbook to the Marvel Universe A to Z Update #3
  • Heavy Metal September 2007
So that's that. I have a lot of news to get to you, but I have been slacking on The OddBlog and there aren't many sponsored posts lined-up for the weekend, so I may take my time getting them out there. I also think this will be the last issue of TCJ I receive; I think I'm going to cancel my subscription to it and pick up another mag that caters to the mainstream and superhero genre. I just don't care that much about obscure, foreign artists and hairy-legged lesbians. Call me "flighty." I also have to renew my Heavy Metal subscription, but if we're being honest, I haven't read more than 2-3 of the issues I've already gotten. Not that they're bad or anything, I just haven't gotten into anything I've read in there lately and most of them are continuing sagas - serialized graphic novels.

Don't forget that all of the comics we list and review are available online from our goodly sponsor, Things From Another World, including subscriptions. And, if you order in advance, you receive significant discounts on everything! Plus, they have nick & dent items which aren't in Mint/Near-Mint condition, but are still great for reading and completing collections; nick & dent stuff is up to 50% off all the time!
