Iconic comedian, George Carlin, died of heart failure at St. John's Health Center in Santa Monica, CA yesterday. He was 71.
Carlin was well-known for his intellectual, and often inflammatory, stand-up. His Seven Words You Can Never Say on Television resulted in a 1972 arrest in Milwaukee, which led to a 1978 Supreme Court ruling upholding the government's authority to sanction stations that broadcast offensive material during hours when children might be listening. Carlin was exonerated on the grounds of free speech.
Carlin appeared on The Tonight Show 130 times, produced over 20 comedy albums, starred in 14 HBO comedy specials, and wrote three books. On November 10th, George Carlin will be awarded the prestigious Mark Twain Prize for American Humor.

HBO has a marathon of George Carlin specials on right now. I just lucked-up and ran across it. You can catch them on HBO2 and HBO2w (the better choice, but it stretches through around 3am).
