Popcorn Prices Jump

According to some sources, as reported by NPR, popcorn prices have soared.

As we have been discussing the comic book industry and the general state of the economics involved lately, this is a good extension of the whole conversation. As I stated before, sales of inexpensive forms of entertainment (such as movies, comic books, and the like) rarely suffer during times of economic recession or depression; what is killing the comics industry is the glut of product (note I didn't call them comic books; they're product).

Popcorn is a side-industry to movies and, specifically, theater attendance. Of course, walk-in movie rental outlets often sell microwave popcorn, as well (but I haven't been to one of those in years, have you?).

An interesting little sidebar, indeed.
