I completely forgot about the Emmys last night, and it was apparently a good thing I did.
The reviews are in and critics overwhelmingly panned the presentation, though they also agreed with the winners. AMC's Mad Men was the first basic cable show to win Best Drama, and NBC's 30 Rock and HBO's John Adams won big, as well. John Adams actually set records for most awards. All in all, basic cable won big the entire night, with other major awards going to FX' Damages.
In an interesting side-note, this month's Sci-Fi Magazine discusses the possibility of a Sci-Fi Awards show, which the network has toyed with since its inception. According to a blurb in the back of the mag, it isn't likely to happen largely because of the "glut of awards shows across the television dial." They list a few other good reasons, but that's the best one. One of the others is how expensive such awards shows are. I suggest Sci-Fi invest more of that money into their productions and make a play for some of the established awards.
