Joe Quesada's latest Cup o' Joe tackles the creator-owned issue in comics, spurred-on by new Image partner, Robert Kirkman's Web video on the same topic. As many of us know, Marvel has played an important part in the development of this idea throughout the years, basically being as "creator-friendly" as they can without actually giving creators any rights to their creations.
But that is, as usual, only half the story. Anyone who works for Marvel is under a WFH (work for hire) contract and you would be naive not to know that on the front-end. After all, Marvel is a well-established universe and where their contracts may not have specifically stated such prior to the 1980s, I am certain any and all of their contracts do now. Still, it obviously remains a hot-button issue and this press release tells you the rest of what you can expect from this week's entry:
Joe Quesada is back in MyCup o’Joe at MySpace Comic Books and he’s tackling one of the year’s hottest topics—Robert Kirkman’s video blog about creator owned comics. What does Joe think? Does he have any planned? Plus, Joe answers your fan questions, revealing more about Incredible Hercules, Uncanny X-Men, the New York Mets and more!
Want the scoop on “Old Man Logan,” Power Pack, and Namor? Well, what are you waiting for? Head on over to www.myspace.com/comicbooks and get in on the action!
