Tonight is the premiere of the new procedural, Mentalist, on CBS. With Psych on mid-season hiatus, this may be the best we get for now. Advance reviews are largely positive, noting the obvious similarities in the two shows, but saying Mentalist is far more rooted in the procedural drama genre than the goofy Psych.
Of course, as we (and many others) have been complaining, the current ratings system is completely outdated; nowhere near as many people watch "live" TV (as in, the shows when they originally air) as they used to - a lot of people use DVR/TiVo now. And CBS is known for canceling shows quickly, even if they have a strong following, so you better catch it while you can!
On the plus-side, there is literally nothing else on the entire dial until Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare on IFC tonight at 11 (CST).
I am not a CBS fan - never have been. They have never really had anything worth watching, IMO. I honestly cannot sit here and think of one show I had to watch since Newhart was on the air! But I have nothing against them for any other reason - they simply have no programming in which I am interested - and I am always on the lookout for good TV. So here's to hoping Mentalist makes the cut.

It didn't suck, but it was nothing to write home about, either. Honestly, it followed CBS' time-honored tradition of giving the audience exactly what they already have, so it will probably be the next "breakout" hit.
