Supernatural: the Apocalypse!?

Did you see last night's Supernatural?

[SPOILERS]

On the offhand chance you did not (why not!? - it's only the best thing on TV), they managed to up the ante even higher for this season! After sending Dean to Hell and pulling him back out, after releasing 200 demons on the world at-large, you would think they might settle down for a few one-offs, but oh no. Never satisfied to "just go with the flow" or rest on their laurels, Sam and Dean (and Bobby, and Ruby - and hopefully Bella) have fallen headlong into the freaking Apocalypse!

Yes, that Apocalypse: the Biblical one, as foretold in the book of Revelation.

The angel who pulled Dean from Perdition laid it on him in one of those dream sequence thingies True Blood is so fond of - where no one's quite certain if it really happened or not, if it was just a dream or has some substantive reality. Accordingly, Lilith is intent on breaking the Seals of Enoch which, when done, will release none other than Lucifer Himself upon the world.

We've gone way past the usual salt lines, iron beats ghosts, and holy water defenses of earlier seasons; this episode delved right into the Occult, full-force. If the trend continues - and after last night's little talk, we can assume it will - it looks like our fair buddy show is going to live up to its namesake!

While most of last night's show was just so-so, it not only set the show's direction for the season, it played into the entire run. Once again, Supernatural proves that continuity is king! One logical cause has led to a reasonable effect to which the Winchesters have been forced to react, thus setting in motion yet another series of causal effects:

That is good writing! That is the very basis of good writing!

If this show were not about ghosts and goblins, these guys would be using Emmys for doorstops and paperweights!

Isn't it though? Like I said, were it not for the subject matter, these guys would be throwing Emmys out just to make room to sit down!

I keep trying to tell people, even if you aren't particularly keen on the whole horror/Supernatural, there is so much more to this show than that!

Truly great TV!
