Planet of the Apes

As I noted a while back, this year is Planet of the Apes' 40th anniversary and there have been quite a few celebratory nods - from an ape-themed Mad Magazine to Marvel Apes, and more. But for the past two weeks, FMC (Fox Movie Channel) has been showing most all of the Planet of the Apes movies back-to-back all weekend. Since this is the last weekend in November, it may well be your last chance to catch them. (I would have posted this before, but I only noticed the trend last week.)

The original begins at 3pm (CST) and is followed by the movie sequels. Right now (and until 3pm), FMC is airing the movies based on the TV series. I am no big Planet of the Apes fan (in fact, I have never seen any of the movies in their entirety), so I cannot say if these movies were "specials" or simply a repackaging of the original TV series.

Either way, you still have the rest of today and tomorrow to catch many of the original Planet of the Apes flicks, if you have basic cable.

Again, not a fan myself, I wanted to tell you about the interim programming FMC is showing on Channel of the Apes - which I find incredibly interesting! It's all about the hype and merchandising - toys, magazines, comic books, and so forth - surrounding the movies. Really cool!
