ABC has committed to a pilot for the adaptation of DC's Vertigo comic, Fables.
The fantasy features fairy tale characters living in modern-day New York. The pilot is a one-hour drama and is expected to follow the series' first storyline, which involves a rehabilitated (and pardoned) Big Bad Wolf - now Fabletown's sheriff - as he investigates the murder of Snow White's sister, Rose Red.
While the characters possess some of their tell-tale characteristics (Big Bad Wolf has to perpetually shave to keep his "fur" at bay), they are "just like you and me," according to pilot writer, Raven Metzner.
NBC tried to work Fables in the 2006-07 development season.
