The Crow Reboot

The Crow, based on the comic book by James O'Barr, was made into a movie in 1994. During filming, Bruce Lee's son, Brandon Lee - in the title role - was accidentally shot by a prop gun loaded with a real bullet. Rumors of a Chinese curse circulated, overshadowing the movie itself. A string of sequels were made and a syndicated TV series followed, but the franchise never recovered.

Now, Daily Variety reports Stephen Norrington has signed-on to write and direct a new Crow film designed to reboot the franchise. While the original movie stayed true to the heavily stylized, Gothic comic book, Norrington says the new flick will be "realistic, hard-edged and mysterious - almost documentary-style."

Norrington was the force behind Blade. He also directed The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, which the director says left him "demoralized." He obviously has the chops to bring the Crow back to life, especially since the new generation of movie-goers is unlikely to be familiar with Bruce or Brandon Lee or the tragedies that occurred.

Relativity Media is looking to acquire and finance the film.
