With both Sam Raimi and Tobey Maguire signed-on to do Spider-Man 4, no one knows for certain whether or not Kirsten Dunst will be reprising her role as Mary-Jane. However, Raimi told MTV's Splash Page that he is writing the fourth movie in the mega-popular series with Mary Jane and said he "couldn't imagine making a Spider-Man movie without Kirsten."
However, the very same Splash Page confirmed Dunst's return back in October of 2008! I'm not exactly sure what has happened between then and now to make them think Dunst would not be returning, but this was from a piece just last week.
While rumors have been floating about the villain or villains set to appear (Morbius has been mentioned, as has Mickey Rourke, though Raimi said he was unawaer of the latter rumor), Raimi himself said he was not at liberty to discuss such matters. However, he did say that the villain(s) would be those from the Marvel Universe and not invented for the movie.
Spider-Man 4 will hit theaters in May, 2011.
