If rumors are to be believed, Evan Rachel Wood will join the cast of True Blood for the second season as "The Vampire Queen of Louisiana," Sophie-Anne. While insiders say Wood has so far only been tapped for two episodes which will air late in the season, it is a major role - meaning True Blood fans are likely to see quite a bit of Evan Rachel Wood as the series goes on.
Sophie-Anne is a 500-year old, French vampiress who has had direct connections to some of the most powerful people in history. Reader comments are basically split, with half of them welcoming Wood to the role and the other half saying she does not look the part nor will she be able to bring it justice.
However, a lot of these same comments were decrying how far the TV show has veered from the True Blood written series. Apparently, the TV show is adding a lot of stuff not found in the original books, expanding characters and their roles, and dropping content and relationships it simply does not have room for. I, for one, welcome such changes. I have not read the books, but have always felt that TV and movie adaptations only have two options: either stick completely to the source or veer distinctly from it; those that try to portray the book faithfully while taking certain "liberties" based on "cinematic" whatever tend to disappoint both readers and viewers.
