A multiple-time loser in the Chicagoland area was sentenced to seven years in jail for passing a bad check for nearly $1000 to purchase a rare copy of the 1963 Spider-Man #2. Scott Meherg pled guilty to the charges.
While the sentence may seem harsh, the truth is that the offender had several previous charges regarding fraud and forgery - three, separate charges concerning forgery and deceptive practices, to be specific. Since the comic book has never been recovered, the man was also forced to pay $980.99 in restitution.
Meherg forged the check to Graham Cracker Comics in Naperville, IL, back in 2007.
