Major Recording Industry Giants Admit to Piracy

Warner Music Canada, Sony BMG Music Canada, EMI Music Canada, and Universal Music Canada admit they owe about $50 million (Canadian) to musicians, artists, and estates whose music they have been ripping-off and pirating on compilation CDs for the entirety of the industry in Canada. It is a longstanding practice in the industry to use artists' works on compilation releases in Canada without compensating the artists.

The recording companies are technically responsible for up to $60 billion (CAD) - and, by all rights, should be forced to pay that, as well as lose their Internet access. By forcing these creeps to pay the maximum fines allowed by law, it will send a clear message to other recording companies and corporations that "piracy is wrong." It not only hurts the industry, it hurts the artist who made the music in the first place.

Some people, however, simply never learn.
