Ramones' Manager Beaten to Death by Assistant

Natavia Lowery, formerly Ramones manager, Linda Stein's, personal assistant, has been convicted of her murder. Prosecutors contend Lowery stole over $30,000 from Stein, then bludgeoned her to death with a piece of exercise equipment. Stein's body was found in her apartment in October 2007. Lowery's defense admitted she stole the money, and even acknowledged she stole from another employer, but denied she killed Linda Stein. The jury took about a day to find her guilty.

Part of Natavia Lowery's defense hinged on the contention that police coerced her into a false confession after 12 hours of questioning in which she originally denied any knowledge of her employer's death. Lowery first told police a masked man had killed her and threatened Lowery not to report it. Eventually, she confessed to the murder, saying Stein badgered her and blew pot smoke in her face. However, authorities found no trace of cannabis in Stein's system and determined she'd suffered far more than the six or so blows Lowery claimed to have landed.

Linda Stein managed The Ramones in the 1970s and was once married to Sire Records' head, Seymour Stein. In 1980, Stein left management and went into real estate. Many of her clients were celebrities and entertainment industry icons.
