British Actor Named as Spider-Man

British actor, Andrew Garfield, has been announced as the new Spider-Man. Though born in California, Garfield was raised in the UK and has a lengthy list of British acting credits to his name, including an episode of Doctor Who, and a Bafta Award for Best Actor. Garfield also starred alongside the late Heath Ledger in American Monty Python alum Terry Gilliam's The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus. Ledger, of course, portrayed The Joker in 2008's blockbuster, The Dark Knight.

The fourth installment in the immensely popular Spider-Man series will be a franchise "reboot," focusing on young Peter Parker's life. Yet unnamed, the movie will be directed by Marc Webb and shot in 3D. Sam Raimi and Tobey Maguire, who directed the first three installments and starred in them, respectively, decided against making a fourth film.
