If you've noticed I'm not covering Marvel's Fear Itself event it's because I don't believe in those things, as I've said time and again. From a publishing standpoint, I understand it, but I don't believe readers should be forced to purchase dozens of titles a week just to follow one character's, or team's, story.
This is nothing against Marvel, which publishes most of my favorite characters; this is a decision I made based solely on the fact that I'm sick to death of these mega-crossover events. These days, there are hundreds of blogs and websites covering the comic book industry, not to mention Marvel's own site, and every one of them are covering the event - which, for what it's worth, I'm certain is only the first of many such events planned for this year.
I don't expect The Big Two, or any other company for that matter, to change the way they produce, publish, or sell their product based on whether or not I choose to cover them or whatever, I simply do not like this approach to business and I don't want to support it. Obviously, as the companies will continue to run these events, I'll continue to cover them; this one simply came on the heels of two of these events (Siege and Shadowland) which burned me financially and creatively. In fact, the very next post is from the X-Men Fear Itself tie-in, because I still love the X-Men (even though I no longer collect them).
I haven't even finished all of the Shadowland titles! The truth is, it simply isn't that interesting, and that makes me feel like I got robbed. I can't overlook that.
