A record 111 million viewers watched the 2011 Super Bowl, but 114 million watched Madonna's halftime performance, making it the most watched TV show in US history. Madonna also holds the title for the most watched halftime show.
Technicians blamed a failure in equipment for a shot of rapper M.I.A.'s middle finger that caused some controversy. The rapper blatantly flipped-off the camera and it was broadcast during the performance. M.I.A. has not commented on the gesture, though almost everyone else has.
