Making waves in the digital realm today, superstar comic creator Jonathan Hickman (Fantastic Four, The Red Wing) announced the digital release of not only his new creator-owned Image Comics series The Manhattan Projects, but also the release of an exclusive digital collection of all his previously published creator-owned work through Image Comics. This digital exclusive collection, Test Pattern, is available only on the Comics by comiXology platform —including iPhone, iPad, Android, Kindle Fire, and the Web.
Test Pattern, a five-volume omnibus, collects Hickman’s entire creator-owned Image Comics back catalog, including The Nightly News, Pax Romana, Transhuman, A Red Mass for Mars, and The Red Wing into one digital edition that both long-time fans and new readers alike can enjoy.
The move toward releasing the entire back catalog of Hickman’s impressive creator-owned career and the digital exclusive collection — available only through comiXology — is also accompanied by the release of a FREE Test Pattern sample edition showcasing the first issues of each original Hickman series. The free Test Pattern sampler serves as a great starting point for new readers interested in Hickman’s work.
“As an innovator in the world of digital comics, comiXology is the logical place to release the entire back catalog of my creator-owned work along with my latest work, The Manhattan Projects. Digital is here to stay, and I look forward to finding a whole new audience with these projects and with comiXology,” says Hickman.
“The Test Pattern collection is an amazing way to introduce fans to Jonathan’s recent back catalog all in one shot,” says comiXology CEO and Co-founder David Steinberger. “Getting creator owned comics into the hands of new readers is a top priority for us and as a long-time fan of Jonathan's work myself, I couldn’t be happier!”
"From the moment I opened the package containing Jonathan's pitch for The Nightly News, I knew he was a creative force to be reckoned with. The work he's done for us since then has only reinforced my high opinion of his many talents, and it's nothing short of an honor to associated with a creator of his caliber," said Image Comics Publisher Eric Stephenson. "We're proud to partner with Jonathan and comiXology in bringing his entire catalog of creator owned work to digital comic fans everywhere."
The Manhattan Projects is Hickman’s new creator-owned series from Image Comics that asks the question: “What if the R&D department created to produce the first atomic bomb was a front for more unusual programs?” Teaming with Jonathan Hickman on The Manhattan Projects is artist Nick Pitarra (Astonishing Tales, The Red Wing) the duo unites once more following the success last year’s Image Comics smash hit The Red Wing. The Manhattan Projects will debut as Jonathan Hickman’s first creator-owned, same day as print digital release.
The Manhattan Projects #1, the five-volume Test Pattern collection, and five-issue free sampler are available for download on the Comics by comiXology platform, the Image Comics App, and the Image Comics digital webstore. The Test Pattern five-volume collection and sampler is exclusive to the Comics by ComiXology platform and can also be found on the Image Comics App, powered by comiXology.

Secret
![]() |
| Secret |
At the intersection of government and private security firms lies a secret that can destroy two governments. It has lain dormant for 20 years, but if it awakens, civilization as we know may be what pays the price. And keeping this secret hidden are men and women who know the power they hold all too well.
SECRET is the first ongoing series by Hickman (Fantastic Four, Ultimate Comics) with Image Comics, following the science fiction miniseries THE RED WING. Hickman's previous Image work includes the breakout miniseries THE NIGHTLY NEWS and PAX ROMANA and his previous collaboration with Bodenheim, A RED MASS FOR MARS.
SECRET #1 will be in stores and on digital platforms on April 11th. It is a monthly 32-page, full color comic book for $3.50 per issue. It is available for pre-order from Diamond Comics (FEB120405).

The Manhattan Projects
What if the union of a generation's brightest minds like Albert Einstein and Robert Oppenheimer was not a signal for optimism, but foreboding? What if everything... went wrong? In the year 1945, the atomic bomb proved its capacity for immense devastation, but what if the creation of that ultimate killing machine was just a cover for a series of other, more unusual, programs? A brand new, monthly ongoing series from Image Comics will pose that question by taking a look at one of the most critical periods of change in the 20th-Century through a lens both darkened and strange. Join us, for what is poised to the breakout hit of 2012: THE MANHATTAN PROJECTS!
Award-winning writer Jonathan Hickman (THE NIGHTLY NEWS, FF) and one of the best new talents to debut in comics during the last year, Nick Pitarra, are teaming up once again to present THE MANHATTAN PROJECTS. Following the completion of their critically acclaimed science-fiction success, THE RED WING, the duo are taking the cautionary aspect of science fiction and applying it not to the future, but to our past!
"I think anyone who's followed my work knows about my affinity for near-future/alt-history, and THE MANHATTAN PROJECTS pretty much represents the crown jewel of all the stories I've ever cooked-up in that vein," detailed Hickman. "Honestly, if we do this right -- and at this point in the process, it sure feels like we are -- I think this might the perfect example of why I do these stories: It takes a world everyone knows, and blurs the lines between fiction and reality in a way that makes you question where one ends and the other begins. I can't wait for people to read it!"
"Jonathan is a great collaborator, he really sees the page as an artist first," explained Pitarra, "With THE RED WING and with this new series, his guidance has meant everything. I have freedom in the layouts and planning stages, but I know that with him, as careful at storytelling as he is, if he suggests a change, the page always comes out better. It's good to work with a writer you can trust."
THE MANHATTAN PROJECTS #1, a 32-page full-color science-fiction comic book for $3.50, will be on sale in stores on March 7th and available for order in the January issue of Previews. In the mean time, both THE RED WING TP (OCT11047, ISBN: 978-1-60706-479-4), a 144-page full-color trade paperback for $14.99, & THE NIGHTLY NEWS ANNIVERSARY EDITION HC (SEP110423, ISBN: 9978-1-60706-4619), a 272-page full-color hardcover graphic novel for $34.99, will be on sale in stores December 14th.

The Nightly News
Image Comics first introduced the world to Jonathan Hickman's work with his Eisner-nominated THE NIGHTLY NEWS back in 2006. He blew the critics away with his fresh take on the medium, incorporating innovative design elements, but never lacking in good old fashioned storytelling. Now Image Comics is proud to re-present his debut series in an oversized deluxe hardcover edition, containing the complete six-issue story, as well as the never before seen original script, an in-depth look at his process, a complete making of and much more!"They say you can never go home again," said Hickman. "But what a wonderful visit it was putting this collection together. I had honestly forgotten both how much work and love went into the books production. I think everyone that picks it up is in for a real treat."
Since THE NIGHTLY NEWS, Jonathan Hickman has never slowed down. He's reached immense popularity, not only with his continued creator-owned work like PAX ROMANA, RED MASS FOR MARS, TRANSHUMAN, and his most recent miniseries with Nick Pitarra, THE RED WING, but also with Marvel's massively popular and highly regarded FF and S.H.I.E.L.D. series. He has two new series planned for 2012: SECRET, with A RED MASS FOR MARS artist Ryan Bodenheim and THE MANHATTAN PROJECTS, with THE RED WING artist Nick Pitarra.
THE NIGHTLY NEWS ANNIVERSARY EDITION HC (SEP110423, ISBN: 9978-1-60706-4619), a 272-page full-color hardcover graphic novel for $34.99, will be on sale in stores December 7th.

Jonathan Hickman's Feel Better Now
If you picked up the first issue of Jonathan Hickman's new Image miniseries THE RED WING at your local comic shop and you're already hungry for more, you're in luck: Hickman has announced that the first installment of his multipart PLUS! project, FEEL BETTER NOW, will be released this October. The PLUS! titles will each be published as stand-alone novellas, all of which highlight Hickman's return to the page as an artist, but each with a distinct style of their own. A creator who is always challenging himself and the medium, Hickman has said the dark comedy FEEL BETTER NOW is already the most interesting visual work he has ever created.
"It feels like it's time, right? This past year, while I've produced a lot of work, my fingers have certainly been itching to draw again,” explained Hickman. “So, here we go! A new book, FEEL BETTER NOW, a new format, and in both execution and design, a new style. I can't wait for people to see it!"
Hickman began his comics career at Image Comics in 2006 with THE NIGHTLY NEWS, a visionary six-issue miniseries that upped comics' game through its inventive design and smart, subversive storytelling. After such an astounding debut, Hickman only picked up the pace, turning out one quality title after another, including PAX ROMANA, TRANSHUMAN (with artist J.M. Ringuet), and THE RED MASS FOR MARS (with artist Ryan Bodenheim). Hickman is also the writer behind several popular Marvel titles, including Fantastic Four and S.H.I.E.L.D.
"This is going to sound like unabashed hyperbole, but Jonathan Hickman is one of the most creative people I've come in contact with since working in comics," said Image Comics Publisher Eric Stephenson. "He has one of the most active and adventurous imaginations in the business – he's constantly pushing himself and that's never more apparent than in the work he does for himself. If you've been a fan of what he's done so far, I'm in no way exaggerating when I say the best is yet to come."
FEEL BETTER NOW is the story of a group of psychiatrists who, out of boredom, decide to recreationally tinker with the lives of their patients. It becomes a game, and, as one might guess, it spirals out of control pretty quickly.
FEEL BETTER NOW, a 40-page original graphic novella, will be available to order in the August issue of Previews, and goes on sale in stores on October 19th for $3.99.

The Red Wing
BERKELEY, CA – 28 March, 2011 – No one can ever claim Jonathan Hickman is lazy. Not content with helming head-turning runs on Fantastic Four, Secret Warriors, and S.H.I.E.L.D., not to mention re-imagining the FF for his most recent hit, The Future Foundation, Hickman returns to Image this summer with an all-new creator-owned miniseries, THE RED WING."We're all pretty excited for this one," Hickman explained. "We believe we not only have a solid concept for an engaging new series, but even at this early stage, THE RED WING has that lightning in a bottle feel to it. I think people are really going to like it."
Written by Hickman, with art by amazing newcomer Nick Pitarra and colors by Rachelle Rosenberg, THE RED WING marks Hickman's first creator owned work since the conclusion of the critically-acclaimed A RED MASS FOR MARS.
"Nick is going to really surprise some people," Hickman said. "When the art for this starts hitting the web, and then when the finished product shows up in stores, many of them are going to wonder where this guy has been hiding. Nick's a very hungry, special, special talent. I consider myself fortunate to be working with him."
Set in a future where the best fighter pilots in the world not only have to master their craft and perfect their skills, the heroes of THE RED WING also have to learn how to navigate through time. Described by Hickman as "the greatest battle in the history of the history of three worlds," the four-issue miniseries is but the first concept to be mined by Hickman & Pitarra as part of Hickman's ongoing "PLUS!" project.
"Well, I've been promising I'd get to this for over a year, so now it's time," Hickman said. "We'll start with THE RED WING, and then I'll be writing and drawing something called, FEEL BETTER NOW, before Nick and I move on to our next exciting project. We have a busy, aggressive slate of exciting stories to tell, and, like I said before, it's time."
"It's a real privilege to be working with Jonathan and the incredible team he's assembled for THE RED WING," added Image Comics Publisher Eric Stephenson. "Since his comics debut with THE NIGHTLY NEWS, Jonathan has been one of the most unique and visionary voices in contemporary comics, and after hearing what he has planned for THE RED WING and the rest of the PLUS! series, I can guarantee you he's not planning to rest on his laurels anytime soon!"
THE RED WING #1 (of 4), a 32-page, full-color comic with a cover price of $3.50, will be available for order now in the May issue of Previews and will go on sale July 6th.

Read the Entire First Issue of Pax Romana for Free!
Maybe Marvel's online comics experiment is a good thing? Image Comics announces that Jonathan Hickman has decided to release the first issue of Pax Romana online to coincide with the second issue hitting stands. This is an official Image Comics press release:29 February 2008 (Berkeley, CA) - THE NIGHTLY NEWS' Jonathan Hickman will be releasing the first issue of his all new miniseries, PAX ROMANA, to coincide with its second issues, due in stores next week.
"I'm extremely proud of PAX ROMANA," said creator Jonathan Hickman. "It's enough of a departure from my first project, The NIGHTLY NEWS, that I had concerns about how it would be initially received. The fact that we printed more copies -- the fact that we sold out of those copies -- has been wonderful."
Last year, Jonathan Hickman's second miniseries, PAX ROMANA, debuted to critical acclaim, hot on the heels of his debut, THE NIGHTLY NEWS. While PAX ROMANA has a very different approach than its predecessor, a sold-out print run and subsequent praise once again solidified Hickman as a creator to watch out for.
PAX ROMANA #2 (OCT072016), a 32-page full color comic for $3.50, will be in-stores March 3rd, 2008. The entire first issue can be found here.
