Cartoon Network Wraps First Live-Action Movie

I haven't been sleeping well lately, mainly nodding off for a half-hour or so, then waking up again. I've been smoking a lot and half-assedly watching TV. About 5:00 this morning or so, I saw a commercial for a new movie coming to Cartoon Network and it got my attention.

It was a live-action movie with blended animation, about a boy who sees cartoons. The spot was funny and looked pretty good, so I wrote down the title and when I got up, did a search for it. I had to dig around on IMdb and only came up with this, which does not mention Cartoon Network at all and says the movie is still in production (expected release date 2007). So I did a broader web search and found the details.

Of course, we're all big CN fans around here, but even if you only watch it from time to time, you've probably noticed a lot of live-action features the past year or so. [Adult Swim] made some slight controversy when they aired Saved by the Bell for a month or so, then they picked up Pee Wee's Playhouse, which ran until just about a month ago. CN itself has recently been showing several live-action childrens' movies, such as Who Framed Roger Rabbit? and Honey, I Shrunk the Kids.

Obviously, they were setting us up for this new movie, which I'm assuming they bought from the original production company, who probably ran out of money or otherwise lost financial backing before production was completed. That's just a guess, because they've been showing the live-action stuff on both networks for over a year now, so who knows how long this whole plan has been in the works?

The movie, Re-Animated, follows a young boy who, after an accident in an amusement park, is able to see cartoons. Paul Reubens (Pee Wee) and Fred Willard are among the castmembers and the screenplay was written by two writers from the team of Foster's Home for Imaginary Children. A short preview can be found on the Cartoon Network site. The movie will air December 8th.

Paul Ruebens scares me sometimes. Specially in Theatres.... at nite... in the dark.... with popcorn... and slippery butter? *cringe*
