Adventure Time: Grayble's Schmaybles

KaBOOM!, the award-winning all-ages imprint of publisher BOOM! Studios, and Cartoon Network Enterprises, the licensing and merchandising arm of the network, are excited to announce the April debut of its fifth volume in the award-winning Adventure Time original graphic novel (OGN) series, Adventure Time Vol. 5: Graybles Schmaybles, presented in full color.

Featuring 160 pages of adventure, as well as the franchise return of writer Danielle Corsetto and the debut of artist Bridget Underwood, Adventure Time Vol. 5: Graybles Schmaybles follows on the success of The New York Times bestselling books Adventure Time Vol. 1: Playing with Fire, Adventure Time Vol. 2: Pixel Princesses, Adventure Time Vol. 3: Seeing Red, and Adventure Time Vol. 4: Bitter Sweets.

“We’re overjoyed to welcome Danielle back to writing an Adventure Time original graphic novel,” said BOOM! Studios Editor-in-Chief Matt Gagnon. “Her approach to storytelling is always such a great fit with these characters. Also: Bridget Underwood is a real find. Her artwork brings to life the Land of Ooo perfectly. I suspect we’ll be seeing a lot more of her work in the years to come!”

In Graybles Schmaybles, best buds Finn and Jake are about to go on their craziest adventure yet—and they don’t even have to leave their living room. The two pals discover a tiny cube all by its lonesome in the middle of the woods after helping Party God with his technical issues. Their commitment to never leaving the helpless finds their new friend back at the treehouse. Finn and Jake soon discover that some of the most harmless looking things can be the most dangerous.

KaBOOM!'s award-winning Adventure Time comics are based on the hit Cartoon Network original series. From the mind of series creator Pendleton Ward and produced by Cartoon Network Studios, Adventure Time follows the unlikely heroes Finn and Jake, best buddies who traverse the mystical Land of Ooo and encounter its colorful inhabitants—and always find themselves in the middle of heart-pounding escapades.

The Adventure Time Vol. 5: Graybles Schmaybles softcover arrives from KaBOOM! and Cartoon Network Enterprises in comic shops on April 1st with a cover illustrated by Stephanie Gonzaga (Adventure Time with Fionna and Cake) for the price of $12.99 under Diamond order code FEB151177.

New Thundercats Coming to Cartoon Network

Cartoon Network and Warner Bros. have announced plans to revive the 1980's classic cartoon, Thundercats. The new series will have a strong anime feel to it, as it will be animated by Japanese firm, Studio4°C, best known for their work on The Animatrix. Sam Register, VP of Creative Affairs at Warner Brothers Animation, said, "The realism and dynamic visual style we’ve achieved are sure to thrill viewers..."

Cartoon Network is also revamping Looney Tunes, and bringing MAD Magazine to TV, as well. One of the original Thundercats writers was recently discovered to be missing from his home, and is believed to have been murdered, possibly by his roommates. News of a live-action Thundercats movie surfaced in 2009, but little more has been reported on it.

Cartoon Network to Fight Bullies

Actually, Cartoon Network's anti-bullying campaign will target not bullies nor victims, but witnesses - those who see others being bullied - and teach them how to intervene. Alice Cahn, Cartoon Network's Vice-President of Social Responsibility (would that every corporation had one - especially Marvel Comics), called them the "bystander community: [those] who know they should do something, but are not sure what." Studies show about 85% of all bullying incidents are witnessed, but witnesses take action only about 1/5 of the time.

Cartoon Network's anti-bullying campaign targets middle-school students, where bullying is most prolific, and will include content within the cartoons and programs, as well as public service ads, and online content. CNN will also participate, with complementary programs for parents.

The program launches October 1st.

Weird Al's New Movie is for Cartoon Network

Weird Al Yankovic's long-awaited return to film is finally coming to fruition, thanks to the good people over to the Cartoon Network. Writing on his blog, Weird Al said the contracts had been in works, literally for years, and the contracts were signed a few months ago, but he was legally obligated to keep it quiet until now. While the movie has not gotten the greenlight just yet, it is the first project Weird Al will present the network, so that's just a technicality.

Cartoon Network approached Weird Al to create content for them - "they were open to anything" - and the first thing he has coming is a full-length feature film, which he will direct and appear in, though he will not be the lead. It is not a sequel to 1989's UHF, and he will not be the star, but he is on the third draft of the script and filming may begin as early as fall of this year (following a tour).

Weird Al Yankovic has appeared on Cartoon Network many times throughout the last few years, usually doing VO for cartoons, and has appeared on [adult swim] shows several times, as well. By way of his wording, it sounds like Weird Al may produce a string of projects for the network, so fans may finally be able to get their Weird Al fix on a regular, and widely-accessible, basis from here on out!

Aqua Teen Hunger Force Season 8 Teaser

Here it is, [adult swim]'s teaser for the upcoming season eight of Aqua Teen Hunger Force. I sincerely hope you enjoy it and that my once-beloved ATHF has leapt back over the shark it completely jumped back in season... whatever. The movie was total shit, too. Still, ATHF gave me so much joy in its early years that I'd be remiss not to point it out to you.
