May 5th brings the 6th annual Free Comic Book Day, with Spider-Man 3 coming out the day before. A lot of stores may participate in this event (this press release mentions "party-like" atmospheres and creator signings), but I have never been to any comic shop that had free comic books on any day, regardless. I've been hearing about this for several years now and have always wanted to get some of these free comics, but have yet to actually do so. Though I freely admit that I wasn't sure which day it was and I can't say for certain that I've ever been in a comics shop on the right day.
At any rate, I now purchase my comics through advance mail order, and I'm not sure how that works with Free Comic Book Day (though I aim to find out). The titles have been announced you can surf over to the actual Free Comic Books Day website for more information.
If you need help locating a comics retailer in your area, call 888-COMIC-BOOK or look on this site. I'll post more on this as the day approaches and I hope that anyone who actually receives free comic books writes in and lets me know where they got them and what was going down in the store when they went.

This was an awesome post ! I totally forgot about Free Comic Book day. I was around a comic shop the first time it happened and it was sweet.
