Marvel Noms for 2008 YALSA Awards

I have a lengthy diatribe to get posted one of these days as to how a certain subsect of people - particularly the sort that read The Comics Journal - have taken the idea of comic books as serious art and literature far beyond the point of common sense. That being said, it is heartening to know that many normal (read: mainstream?) people and organizations are looking at the sequential art form as more than just the (oft-considered pejorative) "funnybooks" they are. In fact, the Young Adult Library Services Association has a category for Great Graphic Novel and Marvel has 7 nominations this year! This is an official Marvel press release:

The American Library Association has released their list of 2007 nominees for their prestigious Great Graphic Novel Award by the Young Adult Library Services Association, with Marvel garnering seven nominations, including the chart topping, mainstream blockbuster series CIVIL WAR, by Mark Millar and Steve McNiven!

Previous winners of this award RUNAWAYS and NEXTWAVE may soon be joined by one of these seven outstanding collections, available now in stores across the country. The nominees from marvel are: CIVIL WAR, IMMORTAL IRON FIST Vol. 1: THE LAST IRON FIST STORY, AGENTS OF ATLAS, DOCTOR STRANGE: THE OATH, FANTASTIC FOUR: BOOKS OF DOOM, SPIDER-MAN: REIGN, and WHITE TIGER: A HERO’S COMPULSION.

Marvel congratulates Millar, McNiven, editor Tom Brevoort, and all of the other nominees.
