FFS: Fright (Angel/Buffy/d10/Unisystem)

NOTE: For whatever reason, it keeps warning me that the HTML formatting is invalid yet it is appearing on my computer. I guess it just hates my table but there's little I can do about that other than delete the table and I'd rather not. I apologize for the formatting. If you cannot see it or it is garbled or overstretched, just let me know and I'll try to get back to taking the info out of the table and figuring out how to format it.

A frightened creature has disadvantage on ability checks and attack rolls while the source of its fear is within line of sight. The creature can’t willingly move closer to the source of its fear.

FRIGHT is a complex system, but it is not SAN; SAN is a Figured Characteristic (and also a complex system). FRIGHT is what most people experience when they hear a loud, sudden sound or their cat unexpectedly leaps from the closet; FEAR leads to Insanity. Using this system requires lots of bookkeeping and roleplaying.

FRIGHT Checks are possible following a failed PCN Test, when a character is Surprised, when a character is Ambushed, etc.

FRIGHT Checks (COOL/WPR vs 10, or as assigned by GM) are requested by the GM as he sees fit, though the following table should help:

FFS Mod

Situation

+1

Corpse (Mangled +1)

-

Jump scare (Loud noise, unexpected cat)

+1

Swarm ->

-

Walk into spiderweb

+1

Hostile Encounter

+2

Monstrous Encounter

+1

Excessive Tension (Duress)

+1

Witnessing another's death (Brutal Murder +1, Loved One +2)

-

Encountering a FEAR or Phobia

+1

Intimidated

+1

For every level of Size over Large (XL, XXL, XXXL, et.al.)

FEAR Check (DC 9) on a failed FRIGHT Test, as your PC loses his COOL.

-1 INIT per failed FRIGHT Test. At 0 INITiative, PC Panics (qv; also ARPG, p.117) and often flees or goes Catatonic (Incapacitated - qv).

-1 to FEAR Tests (SANity).

Graduating Scale of FRIGHT:

Heebie-Jeebies: Holy shit! It's real!
Rattled: -1 to further FRIGHT checks
On the Edge: -1 INIT, FRIGHT
SO Not Okay: Right? -2 FRIGHT, -2 INIT

FEAR Check: Automatic

Critters possess a FFS score that is subtracted from the PC's WPR when testing FFS. If failed, the PC loses PSI. At 0 PSI, she begins losing WPR in Angel/Buffy; in Empyrean, she begins losing SAN. PSI is determined by cross-referencing your INT and WPR on the Life Point Table on p.26. PSI is used to cast spells, create enchanted items, use Psionics, and more.

The q.v. Conditions refers to the D&D SRD_CC, which were to be placed in this post but were removed due to formatting issues. The document is available for free from WotC's website.
