Raimi Brings Syndicated Fantasy Back to TV

Sam Raimi, writer/director of the cult horror mega-hit, Evil Dead and the blockbuster Spider-Man series, is returning to TV - and bringing syndicated fantasy TV along with him.

Syndicated fantasy TV programs had their heyday in the 1990s with such shows as Xena: Warrior Princess and Hercules, but have since faded. Raimi has signed with ABC to bring Terry Goodkind's fantasy novel series, The Sword of Truth, to syndicated television. This will be ABC's first outing in the syndicated realm.

Raimi was an executive producer of both Xena and Young Hercules. Some fans of the novels are worried but according to the IMDb message boards, they are under the assumption it is being filmed as a mini-series; Wizard's First Rule starts filming a full season (22 episodes) as an ongoing series in May.
