Disney and Pixar announced the projects slated for release and development through 2012 yesterday, many of which continue previous franchises.
Toy Story and Cars will return to the big screen, both in 3D. In fact, all of Pixar's new projects will be in 3D and will feature former Cheers star, John Ratzenberger (as have all their previous titles). Tinkerbell is getting her own franchise and a quirky sci-fi epic, Wall*E, features a voice-over by none other than Sigourney Weaver. Disney's first hand-drawn movie in decades is also the first to star a black protagonist and will be set in New Orleans; we brought you news of The Princess and the Frog when it was announced, last year.
As we reported last year, Stan Lee signed a deal with Disney to develop their superhero universe which will be presented in multiple media. The first three of these projects - all of which were developed for the silver screen - are Blaze, Nick Ratchet, and Tigress (not to be confused with Lee's comic book Tigress project, which is a female version of Conan the Barbarian). Gerard Butler is set to star in Nick Ratchet (300), but Disney is keeping the projects under wraps for now.
