I hate doing these "why I'm not around" posts because they all fall one after another when I really cannot be here; they look like a bunch of excuses. Regular readers know they are not. I really am working hard to get the whole site redesigned and published, which means I cannot be here like usual right now.
As I said before, the approach I took was not to be... whatever; I only did it because I am already familiar with Blogger and my webdesign program. I knew a real CMS was probably the best approach, but really did think my way would work - with a lot of work. And it wasn't that I wanted to do it my way just because, I tried it because I didn't want the site to be down for another week or two while I learned a new program. And because it's going to be wonky for months afterward, while I get the hang of the whole thing.
But in the end, this was the better approach and I realized it after getting what of it I published up and running. So, yes, another setback, another delay - but again, when all is said and done, this is the better way to do it and the whole experience will be better for it, so it's worth the wait.
Right now, I am in the very initial stages (RTFM!-stage) and the system I chose is a bit more complex than I was hoping, but about what I expected (and why I didn't go with a CMS in the first place). Luckily, I have several other packages to choose from, so I'm going to evaluate it for another day or two, see if the issues I'm having are on my end or theirs, and go from there. Obviously, if I cannot get it to work comfortably, the delay will be even longer while I work to find a package I like.
All these "update" posts are to keep you apprised of how far along I am and when I expect to be back to normal here and elsewhere. But there's nearly three years' worth of content here, most of it linked to content that goes back even further, so I know you can find something to entertain you in the meanwhile! And the RPG stuff is still up right now, as-is, so there's that too.
