Bettie Page Inspired Star Wars Droid

A post on the official Star Wars blog notes how the late pinup queen, Bettie Page, was the inspiration for the shapely BD-3000 luxury droid, seen in the Revenge of the Sith installment. Specifically noted are the bangs and build, which led to the bot's nickname, "Bettybot." According to the blog, George Lucas' directives describe the BD-3000 luxury droid as "the automated equivalent of Bettie Page." The scenes directly involving the droid, which was designed as a CG character, were cut from the film, but it can be seen in several scenes throughout the movie.

According to Star Wars lore, the "Bettybot" is designed for, and used as, a Senator's aide. These are called "paiges." Bettie Page (seen on the right) died earlier this week. She was 85.
