Jason Slays Box Office
Friday the 13th killed the competition over the weekend, bringing in a whopping $62 million (estimated). The closest thing to it was romantic comedy, He's Just Not That Into You, which grossed an estimated $20 million (rounded up). However, critics expect a big drop in Friday the 13th's returns next week.
Not only did Jason score the biggest opening weekend of 2009 so far, it was also the best opening weekend of any flick in the nearly 30-year old franchise in what was the best President's Day Weekend, ever. It was also the biggest return on any horror movie remake.

The "official" numbers coming in now are slashing Friday the 13th's take back to $42.2 million, which - although $20 million less than what I posted - still secures the records mentioned.
My figures were taken from several sources and breakdown like so: Friday the 13th took in an estimated $19 million Friday and estimates from Saturday the 14th had it at $42.2 million. I may have misread the figures, but so did some others; apparently the $42 million is the overall number for the entire weekend - not $42 + the original $19 million.
