Simon Monjack - actress, Brittany Murphy's husband - was found dead in his bedroom Sunday night by Brittany Murphy's mother, who also lives in the house. A 911 call was placed right at 9:45p Sunday night, and emergency responders pronounced the British screenwriter and director dead on the scene. Initial reports indicate he died of natural causes. No illegal drugs were found in the house.
Brittany Murphy was a prolific actress who appeared in many popular films, as well as the long-running animated TV series, King of the Hill, but her career had lapsed in recent years. Monjack blamed her flagging career on rumors of drug use, mental illness, and eating disorders. Her death shocked the entertainment world.
Monjack faced a backlash from fans and critics following Murphy's death, as he and her mother put their home on the market and tentatively considered charging fans to attend a memorial service. However, the memorial service never took place and the two took the home off the market. Monjack was visibly upset at the actress' funeral, referring to her as his soulmate.
The marriage was controversial from the start, especially since the couple were hardly ever seen together in public; many said Monjack was facing deportation. Simon Monjack was 39 years old.
