Former Beatle, Sir Paul McCartney, joins Oprah Winfrey, Merle Haggard, Bill T. Jones, and Jerry Herman at a state dinner on December 4th to be honored with the Kennedy Center medallion. The following night, the honorees go to the White House for a gala hosted by the President.
Kennedy Center chairman, David Rubenstein, said the honorees have "spent their lives enriching, inspiring and elevating the cultural vibrancy of our nation, and the world." Sir Paul McCartney said, "[President Kennedy's] presidency was so inspiring for so many people that it is a great pleasure for this kid from Liverpool to receive this honour."
