On The Defenders #1 - A Review

The Defenders is a rag-tag band comprised of Doctor Strange, She-Hulk, Iron Fist, Namor, and Silver Surfer. The first issue is a rag-tag example of mediocrity. I hate to pan the Defenders #1 because I had high hopes for it, despite the obvious look of the book going in, but it is simply bad all the way around.

In fairness, writer Matt Fraction had to spend the issue collecting the team and introducing the characters, but even at just over a page for each, the story was strained and drawn-out. The art and the story were both rushed and it is very obvious. I am hanging on for future issues on the offhand chance that this sure to be short-lived series picks up, but also because I'm a completist. And I have a feeling my Defenders collection will be complete very soon.
