RIP Moebius

Moebius, aka Jean Giraud, died Saturday at age 73 after a long fight with cancer. Moebius founded the French version of Heavy Metal, where some of his most popular creations debuted. He also sued director Luc Besson for using his works to make the movie The Fifth Element, but lost the case.

Moebius was best known for his strips that looped, ending nebulously and in such a manner as to suggest the reader start over. In the late '80s, he worked with Stan Lee on Silver Surfer, and also did conceptual artwork for movies like Tron.
