Harvest: A Dark Crop

Who gets to live? Who has to die? In the underworld of illegal organ harvesting depicted in the new Image Comics/Shadowline miniseries HARVEST, money answers that question — and Dr. Ben Dane is determined to change that. But as writer A.J. Lieberman and artist Colin Lorimer will show in the August 1st release of HARVEST's first of five issues, Dr. Ben's motives aren't entirely pure.

Lieberman (COWBOY NINJA VIKING, TERM LIFE) and Lorimer (Dark Horse Presents) delve into the dark trade with the story of a drug-addicted ex-surgeon with a bent take on how to right past wrongs. Framed for murder by Jason Craven, his former boss in the harvesting trade, Dr. Ben decides to exact revenge by making house calls on his former "patients" to take back the organs — and the years of life — their money bought them. Helping Ben are Mariko, a Yakuza enforcer, and a six-year-old boy named Noah.

"I'm not really spoiling anything in saying that Noah is really the personification of Ben's subconscious," said Lieberman in a May 29th interview at Comic Book Resources. "But both characters help keep Ben alive as he stumbles around trying to do something in this world that is larger than himself, something meaningful. And trust me when I say this, most of the time Ben f―s it all up."

Lorimer provides visuals for the HARVEST with heavy black shadows, gritty environments, and plenty of dark atmosphere.

"The story always dictates the style," said Lorimer in the CBR interview. "It's quite a dark tale so I tried to keep it quite muted in tone and in places dirtied up the art to give it a little added texture."

HARVEST is a five-issue full-color miniseries, debuting on August 1st. Its first issue is available for pre-order now from the June issue of Previews (JUN120439.)

Are You Addicted to Aliens?

Xenoholics #1For all your addictions of the extraterrestrial variety, from wild conspiracy theories to late night encounters with probes, the XENOHOLICS are here to help! In October, writer Joshua Williamson (DEAR DRACULA) and artist Seth Damoose (I HATE GALLANT GIRL) will offer their tongue-in-cheek support group to the masses by way of a new series from Image Comics and Shadowline.

Dan Duncan is contributing painted covers that make even little green men look good, and Damoose provides quirky, charismatic interior art with lots of personality and animation. Williamson promises that XENOHOLICS, as USAToday put it, "won't be a book that skimps on the out-of-towners."

“XENOHOLICS is about aliens and I didn’t want it to be one of those books where the aliens are only hinted at,” Williamson commented. “But aliens aren’t the only stars! There are also the crazy people who believe in them. I’ve always been fascinated with people who claim to have been abducted or believe with all their hearts that aliens are out there... watching us. This is their story as they get thrown into a larger conspiracy, and we get to see how they react to it. Our main goal was to take the alien genre and spin the clichés on their heads, creating without a doubt the weirdest book I've ever written.”

"XENOHOLICS will do for aliens what CHEW did for cannibals," said Shadowline Publisher Jim Valentino. "It's smart, funny, and surprising. A perfect addition to Shadowline's commitment to excellence in diversity and, I believe, our next hit."

Believe it or not, aliens are only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to conspiracies in this laugh-out-loud comic! While the XENOHOLICS may be there to help each other, it appears that not everyone in the group is being entirely honest about their encounters. Once readers have been introduced to XENOHOLIC's motley crew of alien addicts, they'll wonder: Will any of these nuts ever be able to prove that aliens do in fact exist?

XENOHOLICS #1, a 32-page, full-color, mature comedy comic book that will appeal to fans of CHEW and BOMB QUEEN, will be available for order in the August issue of Previews Catalog and goes on sale October 19th, 2011 for $3.50.

The 27 Club

27 #1Berkeley, CA - 26 August 2010 - Hendrix, Cobain, Joplin, Morrison -- all died at age 27. In 27, and all-new miniseries from Image Comics and Shadowline, a gifted rock musician fights to make it to his 28th birthday.

This four-issue series is written by Charles Soule (Strongman), drawn by the brilliant Renzo Podesta (Hard Drive, Howard Lovecraft and the Frozen Kingdom), and features gorgeous covers by W. Scott Forbes (FORGETLESS). It will be published in the larger Golden Age format.

In 27, the "27 Club" admits only the most brilliant musicians and artists -- and kills them dead in their 27th year. Will Garland is a famous rock guitarist, secretly unable to play for months due to a neurological disorder afflicting his left hand. He's also 27. With mad scientists, long dead rock legends, and cosmic entities in his way, can he make it to 28?

27 #1 (of 4), a 32-page, full-color comic book in the Golden Age format, will be in stores November 10th, 2010.
---
Editor's Note:
For those of you who advance order (which I highly suggest for several reasons), 27 will not be available until next month. I am trying to develop a system that helps me post press releases closer to their actual release date, but things have been working against me lately (computers, health, even finding the best e-mail programs, et.al.), so bear with me. Actually, more to the point, would you guys rather I just go ahead and publish them as they come to me, or hold on to them a little longer?

Wiedlin, Morrison Offer Comic-Con Exclusive Lady Robotika

Lady Robotika #1Lady Robotika's Jane Wiedlin (The Go-Gos) and Bill Morrison (The Simpsons, Futurama) will be on-hand to autograph and discuss their new series, as well as the Comic-Con exclusive, limited edition, Lady Robotika #1 issue (cover by Jim Silke -- featured). Like I said, I'm not posting the entire schedules this year; you can find those on the companies' websites.

Lady Robotika is an existential, possibly absurdist, sci-fi comedy which is more comedic than sci-fi, or sexy, or anything else. Most of the first issue is exposition and it isn't handled very well. Definitely interesting, and recommended for collectors, but your average superhero comics fan probably isn't going to like it very much.

WHO:
Lady Robotika, the inter-galactic rock 'n roll sexy cyborg heroine, is the brainchild of Jane Wiedlin (legendary guitarist for the Go-Go's) and Bill Morrison (Eisner Award-winning creator behind The Simpsons Comics, Futurama Comics, Roswell, Little Green Man, and Heroes Anonymous). The new super-heroine debuted last week to great reviews with Lady Robotika issue #1: "Slaveship to the Stars!"

Grammy Award-winning album art director, and famed comic and pin-up artist, Jim Silke, has created a limited-edition convention-exclusive Lady Robotika cover for "Slaveship to the Stars!," available for the first time during San Diego Comic-Con at the Image Comics booth for $10.

WHAT:
Jane Wiedlin, Bill Morrison, and Jim Silke will be attending San Diego Comic-Con, hosting Lady Robotika autographing/meet & greets, attending various parties/events, and closing out the weekend with a bash at Meltdown Comics in Hollywood.

WHEN & WHERE:
Friday, July 23
Jane Wiedlin, Bill Morrison & Jim Silke autograph-signing

4:00pm - 5:00pm

Lady Robotika from the Go-Go's Jane Wiedlin

Lady Robotika #1Berkeley, CA - 23 April 2010 - JANE WIEDLIN (The Go-Go's) and BILL MORRISON (Bongo Comics) blast off this July with the out-of-this-world space adventure, LADY ROBOTIKA from Shadowline and Image Comics. Scribes Wiedlin and Morrison get an assist by TONE RODRIGUEZ (Shadowhawk), who works with Morrison on the art.

"I never meant for it to be like this," exclaims Wiedlin. "One minute I was just another hard-workin' guitar slinger, ripping out power chords while traveling the hinterlands with my band, The Go-Go's. The next, I was blasted into a crazy adventure in Space, with powers far beyond a damn fine F chord, and some nice, sexy stage banter. But hey, it's a big Universe out there, and someone's got to save it. Guess that someone is ME."

Morrison adds, "I heard someone say 'Lady Robotika is bigger than Jesus!' I certainly didn't say it. I would never say something like that. I'm going to Hell, aren't I?"

"LADY ROBOTIKA is pure rock and roll," says Shadowline Publisher Jim Valentino. "Loud and proud of it! This is the space adventure for rock stars."

In LADY ROBOTIKA, aliens from a distant planet abduct rock star, Jane Wiedlin, and force her to play a concert for their Earth-obsessed emperor. During the trek back to their planet, the aliens implant Jane's body with nanobots. But their plan to turn her into one of their cyborg slaves backfires when Jane learns to control the nanites within her and becomes the super-powered cyborg liberator, LADY ROBOTIKA!

LADY ROBOTIKA #1 - a full-color, 32-page comic, written by Jane Wiedlin and Bill Morrison, with art by Bill Morrison and Tone Rodriquez - will be available on July 14th, 2010 for $3.50.

"The return of the original SHADOWHAWK, Paul Johnstone, is electrifying. Cavallaro's Parade (with Fireworks) Nominated for YALSA List Inclusion

Parade {with Fireworks)11 November 2009 (Berkeley, CA) - Image Comics and Shadowline, LLC have announced their critically acclaimed graphic novel, PARADE (WITH FIREWORKS) by Michael Cavallaro, has been nominated for the prestigious Young Adult Library Services Association Great Graphic Novels for Teens Booklist!

"PARADE (WITH FIREWORKS) has received an immense amount of acclaim since its release, but the YALSA Great Graphic Novels for Teens nomination is one we're most proud of," Shadowline LLC Publisher Jim Valentino said. "We've long felt Michael's very personal tale is the perfect fit in any library, and are honored to even be nominated for the booklist. We certainly look forward to any and all feedback we receive from the valued members of the YALSA committee."

PARADE (WITH FIREWORKS) opens in 1923, as Italy is pulling itself from the wreckage of the first World War while unknowingly plummeting toward another. The nation seemed to be holding its breath, and the slightest perceived transgression could result in violence. On the evening of the Feast of the Epiphany, it did, causing one man to choose between political standing and his very own family. The YALSA Great Graphic Novels for Teens nomination is, in and of itself, a prestigious accolade for a very deserving title.

PARADE (WITH FIREWORKS) TP (DIAMOND: SEP082265 - ISBN: 1582409951), a 72-page, full-color, deluxe tradepaperback for $12.99, is in stores now.

Shadowline Goes Noir with Overlook

Ov12 February 2009 (Berkeley, CA) - Image Comics' Shadowline makes sure fans of crime comics like SIN CITY and CRIMINAL have it good this April, when writer Joshua Williamson and artist Alejandro Aragon introduce them to the hard-boiled noir of OVERLOOK!

"OVERLOOK takes everything I love about crime novels, movies, and comics and distills them into three issues of some of the most brutal comics I've ever written," Williamson said. "Even better, Alejandro completely mastered conveying OVERLOOK's beautifully twisted noir with only his brush to help him. I cannot believe some of the things we're getting away with in this book! My fellow crime fans will be most pleased."

In the town of OVERLOOK, a dirty prize-fighter by the name of Mickey "The Nickel" Nicholson will do anything for a buck. Mickey is hired by one of OVERLOOK's most notorious mobsters to infiltrate an underground boxing outfit and find a massive stash of stolen "rainy day" money - and kill the wayward wife responsible. Shadowline - A Coupla Sell-Outs

Savage #1I don't know what happened to this yesterday. I got it the other night and I formatted it and thought I'd posted it to be released throughout the day. The picture is still in the pics folder and the original is in the bin (thank goodness I hadn't emptied it yet!), but there is no post! I must have formatted it and just never copied it over, then deleted the mail as part of the routine without thinking about it... not sure. Anyway:

11 December 2008 (Berkeley, CA) - Image Comics Shadowline is proud to announce two of their newest and most diverse debuts, SAVAGE and I HATE GALLANT GIRL, have completely sold-out at a distribution level.

"Shadowline's steadfast commitment to diversity is what drives the entire imprint," Shadowline Publisher Jim Valentino said. "Having two completely different titles reach a similar success simultaneously is a very important occasion for us and one we hope drives readers to future issues of these wonderful books."

SAVAGE teams horror master Steve Niles with celebrated painted artist Mike Mayhew along with Dan Wickline and Jeff Frank to craft a hardcore thriller pitting werewolves against Bigfoot in an intense battle royale. On the other hand, I HATE GALLANT GIRL, a runner-up in the Who Wants To Create A Superheroine Contest by writer Kat Cahill and artist Seth Damoose, takes a very different approach at the super-hero genre as a young woman rejected to be the world's next Gallant Girl decides to take destiny into her own hands. Limited quantities of both issues may still be available at your local comic book store.

SAVAGE #2 (SEP082267) and I HATE GALLANT GIRL #2 (OCT082311), both 32-page full color comic books for $3.50, are in stores now.

"What's cool about Eddy Current, is that in going over these chapters for the collected library edition, I'm struck and reminded by how truly timeless his tale is," McKeever said. "Ironically, Eddy Current is more relevant today than it was 22 years ago. Go figure!"

McKeever's EDDY CURRENT begins with its titular hero confined to an asylum until a mail-order Dynamic Fusion Suit allows him to escape and pursue his dream of saving the world.
