D-d-d-did I stutter?
You read it right: the classic 1980's cartoon, Thundercats, has been optioned for a move to the silver screen, though no real information is available just yet. The screenplay is by newcomer, Paul Sopocy, and Diamond reports that it is an origin story, focusing on Lion-O's rise to power and leadership of the team. Thundercats was actually a really good show. I have an entire VHS tape of episodes I snagged from Cartoon Network when they were showing it a few years back and they stand up well to the test of time. Crisp, clean animation, and really exciting stories (though the dialogue is stilted, as you'd expect).
Transformers is still being wide-released on July 3rd, but will have special showings in various theaters on July 2nd. I do not have a list of the theaters in which it will make its early premiere, but I'm sure it's going to be in the larger cities and venues, so check your local listings.
Lastly, and this one's a head-shaker, Joel Silver is in the process of making a He-Man live-action film. Yes, you read that right: a live-action He-Man movie. Of course, He-Man was a hugely successful franchise in the 1980s as well and, with the recent success of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, we might just have a surprise hit here.
But I really doubt it.

I'd go watch the Thundercats. When I was a kid, I never missed an episode of the thundercats, although I am wondering who they'll get to play the part of that funky little side-kick.
I was never really into the Transformers, so that one doesn't interest me much. As for He-Man, that one's already been done. They called him Conan.
Sne-arf, sne-arf.
I'm hoping it will be animated; a live-action Thundercats could really go either way, but I'd imagine it would be pretty cheesy.
You know, that's a good point about He-Man, but my little brother was WAY into the whole thing when it was big - he had the action figures and the castles and playsets and all that, and He-Man had its own backstory and mythology that really was its own animal. It was flimsy and completely one-dimensional, but it keeps it separate from Conan because Conan had a deep, rich backdrop that went all through Cimmeria, Hyperion, and all of that. Whole books have been written on Conan's surrounding mythology alone!
But I get what you're saying.
He-Man was a little after my "kiddie" days. I loved Conan. Big man, big muscles, little clothing. Yeah baby, sign me up.
Oh sorry. I know what they should do. Let's see a "Justice League" movie. We know they can do Superman and all that, but what about the whole lot of them in a movie. I mean, come on, if they can turn the Flinstones into a movie, why not the Justice League. "Wonder Twin powers, activate".
(Let's see just how old you really are. LOL)
HA!
You dare test my Super Friends acumen? Oh, ye of little faith!
I used to get up at like 6:30 in the AM when I was... well, I had to only be in kindergarten because of where we lived, so I was between 4 and 5, just to watch Super Friends!
Did you catch the JLA on Smallville this season?! Oh man! They knocked it out of the park! SO cool!
[SPOILER]
Just wait for the season premiere! Bizarro me have to see, no?
Their bringing Bizzaro to Smallville. Oh, now that I've got to see.
It's nice to know I'm not the only wanna-be super hero out there. LOL
